Reviews
"Drug dealer and prostitute friendly living! As a long time (3 year) resident of the former "Lennon Woods", I was hopeful to the change to "Hawthorne Centre North". Unfortunately, given it almost a year with the new company before this review, things have become increasingly worse........ Pros: Close to shopping (walk to Target/Wal-mart areas), colleges (Miller-Motte walking distance/UNCW a couple of miles away, restuarants, and an airport (5.0 miles away). Various properties with various floorplans / Cheap Rent (prices have since increased to unreasonable amounts) / Courteous staff (only the front desk girl, Megan and the maintenance staff) / On-site laundry / On-site business center / Community pool / Allows pets / Bus stops on most sides of the complex...... Cons: The drug and sex trafficking have increased almost 10 fold. I believe this place to be unsafe and unfit for my toddler child. If you plan on having a quiet night in the complex, think again. At the moment of writing this review, I can hear the neighbor's TV perfectly through the walls. Yes, the windows are closed and locked. Expect your neighbors to get an earful of whatever conversation you're having (even while whispering). Privacy is a huge concern. Prices have increased to ridiculous, unworthy amounts with a two-bedroom at almost $1k/month. While the third-party exterminators visit each week, the roaches, water bugs, and ants seem to get worse with every spray. Not to mention the hornets nests took 2 months of complaining to be removed. The new signs showing the complex name have been completed for months yet layers upon layers of bricks remain on the grounds. As far as maintenance, Mario and Alex generally take care of whatever they can given whatever the company will allow. It once took an entire month to replace my dead A/C (2012, when the heat was 110 outside). I had to sit in the office all day until the manager finally approved the A/C unit be swapped with a unit in an non-leased apartment (not a new A/C unit). Granted, that was "Lennon Woods" but I don't see any improvement at all. My current A/C unit (in a loft) gets either too cold or too warm. I'm unsure how the two-bedrooms fare in that department although the business center (one of the bedrooms of an originally two-bedroom apartment) is generally about 10 degrees warmer than the office (the rest of the original two-bedroom apartment). As far as office staff, Megan is generally the sweetest and most helpful. She takes on a lot of tasks that management SHOULD be handling but isn't. The current manager is completely unprofessional and downright RUDE. I went into the office to talk about upgrading from a loft to a two-bedroom (hopefully at a discounted rate given my punctuality on rent and "seniority" of renter-ship). Before I was able to speak, she started attacking me over calling during her lunch break on another day and told me I need to leave. I have since placed a call to corporate with no response. It seems the company keeps bringing in less-than-qualified "managers" while the rest of the staff just has to suck it up and stay at their positions and pay rates. As far as the sidewalks, the bushes have been in the way for years. They DID finally hire landscapers to trim the bushes right before the purchase of the company. Since, they've grown back and make it almost impossible to walk on a sidewalk. There are no assigned parking spots, although you're allowed TWO per apartment. Not all buildings have ample parking. I've complained about various things multiple times with no action. So if you prefer a great living environment, I suggest you look elsewhere. I could go on and on about the cons but if that's not enough to drive you to go somewhere else, then you belong here."
