"I regret shopping here. I wanted to support local business - made two trips for lightbulbs, and neither worked as expected. They’re also ~4x more expensive than what you’d find on Amazon. When you try to make a return, they give you an archaic ‘credit slip’ to spend money at their store, instead of refunding your card. Giving 3 stars (instead of 2) because at least one of the workers tried to be helpful."
"Best service out there. Howie was very helpful and made me feel welcomed in his store. I came all the way from LI to go to his store because of a recommendation from Uncle Ted!"
"Hands down the #1 hardware store in the neighborhood. Whether it's paint, plumbing, electrical or household supplies that you need, they have it all. Sid and Howie offer the best customer service and with a smile too..great guys!"
"It's a hardware store. Everyone on here looking for a smile and a muffin go across the street to the Starbucks. You need to fix something at home that's broken, or buy a need piece, then yes. By all means yes. This is a hardware store. They have solid advice and won't lead you wrong. Hence, one job was far too out of my technical reach, they said hell no hire a professional."
"Surprised to read some of the earlier reviews as the guys working in the store today, when I went in, were polite and helpful--practically to a fault. As I was leaving, I got some interesting trivia regarding the business. A fire long ago (started in a neighboring basement, apparently) was quite a blow, but not one they couldn't weather--as told engagingly by one of the managers. What's more, they've been open for nearly a century in this East Village spot. That's undeniably saying good about the place, besides my review. Longevity speaks. Definitely a pleasant chat. And yes, prices are a bit high."
