"The Edison is one of the finest apartments I've had the pleasure of staying at while attending school here. It's kept very clean and is like 10 minutes walking distance from MCV campus. The best part about this location is the management. They will email you very promptly and accomodate you whenever possible. The staff team is really friendly and I've never had any issues during my stay here. I highly recommend this place especially if you're a graduate student."
"I just moved here from Huntsville, AL. I will update my review in a year or so but I wanted to leave this for people who are thinking about moving here (especially those new in town like me), hopefully someone will find it helpful. Amarani was very helpful, patient and responsive, which was extremely important since I was coming from a different state and couldn’t just take a trip up here to see the building before moving in. I have no family or friends here therefore no plan B, so this was huge. >if you have the time to tour the place with someone from the leasing office - DO IT! Get familiar with things so you don’t have to run around like me looking for everything later on. >I like the fact that this is a pet friendly place, it was hard to find a place in downtown within my price range that accepted dogs. You can take your dog to the park that’s just a couple blocks away, buying pee pads might be a good idea in case you’re in a rush to leave and can’t take an extra 10 mins to take it out. >Even the smallest studio apartment is super cute and it has everything I need, the bathroom is in the middle of the unit which is great because you still get some sense of privacy (I’m buying industrial style furniture to go with everything) >Parking garage entrance is actually on 8th st (opposite site of the main entry to the older Edison building), you can only get into the Edison building on the 6th level of the parking garage (there will be a door, need to scan the passcode you will be given upon move in). The parking spots are small though, when you park keep in mind that it might be hard to get in and out of your car if someone parks a little close to you. >People are friendly (lots of young professionals/college students) >Trash chute is on the 6th floor, recycle is on 8th st by the parking garage. >Mail is by the leasing office at the older Edison building. >if you don’t see your address when turning on electric with dominion I recommend you schedule a phone call early that way you don’t stay on hold forever, they called me back a few hours later and that worked out."
"Coming up on the end of my time at the Edison I thought I'd detail the best and worst parts of living in this building in hopes it will help those looking for a Richmond apartment. Overall my experience has been quite positive. The best: 1. The actual apartment- I absolutely LOVE my apartment itself. The layout is unique (I have a loft bedroom), with high ceilings, walk in clothing closet, included cable and internet, lovely features like granite countertops, floor to ceiling windows, and a spacious living area. 2. The amenities- the gym, yoga studio, lounge, common patios, and movie theatre are very nice to have in the building and are always kept clean and in mostly working order. 3. The staff- I've always had positive experiences with the leasing office and the maintenance staff is fantastic. They have fixed any and all issues I have had within 24 hours. The Worst: 1. The parking garage- To be totally fair, the garage is managed by an outside provider so these issues are not totally the Edison's fault. The garage is full of horribly tight spaces and turns, terrible parking jobs, ONLY has access to the building on the 6th floor, and is $110/month which is rather expensive for Richmond. Additionally, two floors of spaces are "reserved" for a VCU partnership so be prepared to go to the top of the 8 floor garage if you're coming home from work. 2. The location- If you work downtown, you might love the location! However, for myself as a recent college grad I was looking for walking distance to night life and restaurants. There is some of this around, but not a lot so driving and Ubering is your new best friend. If you're looking for what I was in a location, I'd recommend looking in Scott's Addition or the Fan. 3. Storage space- Within my apartment, the storage is lacking. There is no coat closet, no drawers in the bathroom (only the under the sink cabinet), and the washer/dryer closet has no storage space. In the kitchen, drawers are really tiny. There are quite a few cabinets, but only high up so the configuration of your stuff was bothersome. Keep in mind the apartments are all different, so this may not be an issue in yours. Again, overall I really did enjoy my time at the Edison. For me, the positives did outweigh the negatives and I would recommend this building to anyone looking for a reasonably priced and wonderful place to live."
"So this wasn't the worst place I've lived but that's a low bar for me. Overall, there seemed to be a lot of maintenance and managerial issues. The elevators broke quite a few times and I lived on the 11th floor. The stairwell next to my apartment flooded and was an absolute mess that ended up making my apartment smell like mildew for the last month. All of the amenities were closed long after other apartments gyms and amenities opened back up. I got countless noise complaint emails (some while I was even traveling for work) that were later attributed to the stairwell with no apology for the mix-up. The parking garage was always under construction, I would come back to no space to park in after work (granted it's not owned by the Edison but they advertise it as attached). And if you want enough space to park your car and exit from anywhere other than the back hatch, think again (I have a small Subaru for reference). Overall, I was so unhappy I left before my lease ended and just moved a half a mile down the street to a much better managed building."
"Price is decent for the quality you get. The gym and lounge areas are nice amenities. However, I found the rent listings published online to be misleading. For instance, they advertise rent for studio apartments at $864 and then note “Internet Included” and “DirectTV Included” under Community Amenities, alongside the other “free” amenities listed (as if the $864 was inclusive of internet / cable). The reality is, in the fine print of their contracts, it discretely notes a $55 incremental fee charged for these “amenities” (fees/service which is not optional). Wanted to share for those doing price comparisons between apartments. One other feature I wish they had is electronic access system locks for the apartment units (instead of key entry). Would probably rate experience thus far ~3.5 stars if not for rent listing topic above"
