"I lived in an apartment here at shockoe commons for a year and it was one of the worst living experiences I've had thusfar. the management is nonexistant. When moving in: shockoe commons gave us a date to be ready to move in, and on the day of, I arrive to the apartment building with my UHaul to move in and it turns out SC management never even processed the application. They ended up giving me a different apartment then the one I applied for and I had no option but to accept it since the UHaul was outside and loaded. Then, this apartment was not even cleaned since the previous tenants. Floors were dusty, painting tape across the walls, and the fridge and AC didn't work. despite complaining to management multiple times, the apartment stayed like this FOR 6-7 WEEKS (this was during July too). Management continuously lied to us promising they would send cleaners/handymen to fix all these issues. Furthermore, the company had the audacity to charge us utilities during these first two months and when me and my roomate tried to complain about it, management sent us in circles with no compensation. Another thing to note is that this company charges utilities by dividing up the entire building's usage and splitting it evenly amongst all residents. This was another weird policy because me and my roommate ended up paying over a 100$ EACH for sewage for a few months during our stay which was also ridiculous. Never living here again"
"EDIT: shockoe commons loves to let everyone know they’re under “new management!!!:)”. Bonaventure is 10x worse than the company we signed our lease with. They will blow smoke about work orders, sound super professional in their review responses, but the professionalism ends there. I did reach out via email, and went months without a response.what a joke. I’m so glad my lease ends in two months, and would urge anyone who reads this not to sign any agreement with this effed up management. They raise rent and keep all the money for themselves. By the way, if you guys can’t fix my bathtub garbage disposal, washing machine, or find me a key that actually opens mailbox by this week(it’s been months), prepare to hear from my lawyer :) I have not, and never will be late on rent, but this establishment (bonaventure, not cedar broad) has not held up on their leasing agreement for a single month. This place is a dump. The dumpsters are disgusting, they reek so bad my bf and I gag every time we leave the apartment. There’s rats (dead and alive) everywhere. The concrete is covered with grease and sticky. There’s trash and graffiti everywhere. Poor security (door handles broken off and loose). Poor carpentry inside. Our neighbors have 2 dogs that they let pee all down the hallway (I guess taking them out is too much) and management has done nothing.Poor, poor management - youll place an “emergency” work order and they’ll just never come. AND this place has the audacity to raise rent. Don’t live here!!!"
"Please do not move into this absolute s-hole of an apartment complex. The elevator has been broken for months, for starters, with zero updates on when it will be fixed. Management and maintenance are both completely non-responsive, don’t answer the phone, and I question whether they actually exist. In spite of their failure to meet basic leasing terms, management continues to jack up rent. They are advertised as “luxury” apartments, but that couldn’t be farther from reality. There are far, far nicer and better-managed apartments in downtown Richmond. Shockoe Commons doesn’t even warrant one star."
"Office rarely picks up. Work orders go unfixed for over a year. Just not worth the rent price. The windows are nice and location is good but can’t get ahold of management and packages always get stolen."
"We were not informed of the noise pollution coming from the restaurant located directly underneath the apartment. The restaurant frequently played music that sounded in the 70 decibel range in my living room. The construction of the apartment floor is also questionable and I even had to take myself to the emergency room after stepping on rusty nails sticking out of the floor. After living here for less than a year, the leasing office tried to raise our rent by 30% and was not willing to negotiate to a reasonable raise based on property value and cost of living increases, which would have been about a 12% raise. Our rent for October also include charges for things we already paid for and a TV cable charge, which we don't get. On top of that, we're were also charged extra for municipal utilities that are already covered by taxes"
