"I lived in a 1BR apartment at Lyric for a year. I would’ve stayed longer, but wound up leaving the DC area at the end of my lease. Lyric is reasonably priced in one of the most walkable areas of the city. Pros: - Great location. Near Safeway, A Baked Joint, Wiseguy Pizza, Baan Siam, and several other restaurants and eateries. - Super walkable. Close to downtown, the Mall, the Mt. Vernon Triangle and Chinatown Metro stops, and a ZipCar. - Built in 2014, so you’ll encounter relatively few maintenance issues. - Amenities include a pool, gym, and outdoor terrace. - 24-hour security. - Smart thermostat. - Keyless fob to enter apartment and amenities. - Clean common areas. - Garbage and recycling is quickly removed from the trash rooms. - Pest-free. Prior to moving in, I saw several reviews complaining about rats and bugs. I suspect those were written by other properties. I saw no evidence of pests in my year at Lyric. - Building management is surprisingly thoughtful. They offer discounts to local restaurants, trivia contests, and holiday giveaways. - Balcony, which you rarely get at this price point. Cons: - Very little natural light. We had an alley-facing apartment, and the light left a lot to be desired. - Noise. Our neighbors were polite, but sirens, early morning delivery trucks, and people shouting from the alley below managed to carry into our apartment. If you can tolerate the noise and lack of natural light (which may not be an issue in non-alley facing apts), Lyric is a great value."
"Echoing the previous reviewers: the utility fees are egregiously high. Every time the concern is raised, management does not provide a real answer. They blame it on the new utility service they are using, but it sure seems like they are trying to pass off their administrative bills onto the renters. They went from charging $20/mo. in 2020 for trash/sewer/water total to $60+ starting in 2021. And the amount has gone up every month, including for months where we were out of the city and didn't use an ounce of water. Our latest bill was more than $74. This is absolutely absurd. Residents have been complaining for months without any transparency or action from management; literally not a single email to acknowledge the situation. Oh and I won't go into how it takes 4+ maintenance requests to fix simple plumbing issues, or how I've been locked out of my apartment multiple times because they didn't charge the door fob batteries on time, or how packages are regularly misplaced. Take it from someone who's been living here for almost 3 years: it used to be a great place to live but right now, it's just not. There are much better options within a 2 block radius."
"I have been living at Lyric since 2019. At first, things were great, decent pricing for the area and great common areas. But within the last year, Lyric switched to a different utilities company, Conservice, that is now charging residents 3-4 times the normal amount for water, sewer, and trash. We're talking going from ~$20-$30/month to ~$90-$100+/month for a 690sqft ONE BEDROOM (it's even higher for bigger rooms). This has been happening for 4-5 months. Residents at neighboring apartment complexes (Gables City Vista, 450 K, etc) have not experienced the same increase, indicating this is a Lyric specific issue. Residents have reached out to management inquiring about these increases, but only received vague responses that they are conducting a "complex" investigation. There is no transparency and no indication of when this issue will be resolved, leaving many of us extremely frustrated and burning money on whatever issue Lyric or Conservice has failed to resolve. I was hesitant to write this review as I've considered Lyric my home for 2 years, but this is a warning to those considering renting at Lyric, I'm confident you'll save money renting at all the other luxury apartment complexes who aren't charging obscene prices for utilities. Also yes, there were rats too."
"Great apartments to rent. Close to downtown and major highways to get out of the city. Safe neighborhood, controlled access, friendly and helpful staff, and good shops & food nearby."
