FarmerJawn Produce & Kitchen
About the Business
FarmerJawn Produce & Kitchen is a unique institution located at 1225 East Street Road in West Chester, Pennsylvania. This food, grocery, and supermarket store is reintroducing farming into the lifestyles of urban people to cultivate physical, social, and environmental health. As a 128-acre working farm, FarmerJawn is dedicated to regenerative organic food production for underserved communities, making it the largest Black-woman owned regenerative organic produce farm in America.
At FarmerJawn, access to fresh organic foods is provided within food deserts and the community at large through storefronts. The institution offers educational programs on the origins of food through on-farm and in-class school-based programming, as well as adult agri-business training. FarmerJawn aims to increase awareness of societal challenges and opportunities while creating lifestyle products for happier and healthier lives.
Operating over 120 acres of farmland, FarmerJawn offers opportunities for the community to learn and grow their own organic agribusinesses. The institution also curates food production hubs using vacant properties to empower access to fresh, organic produce in underserved communities.
FarmerJawn offers various models to provide fresh produce to underserved communities, including a CSA subscription service, a retail location called The Greenery, and the upcoming launch of CornerJawn, a healthier alternative to corner stores. The institution believes that systemic change begins with education and offers training programs through their Agriculture Business Incubator, School-Based Programming, and Community Classes.
Addressing challenges faced by Black, brown, and marginalized communities, FarmerJawn partners with local and global organizations to increase awareness and promote regenerative agriculture practices nationwide. Founder and CEO Christa Barfield is a recognized champion of "Food is Medicine" and nutrition security by the USDA.
With a mission to improve physical, social, and environmental health, FarmerJawn offers Viva Leaf Tea products, seed to shelf merchandise, and organic-focused recipes. The institution believes that fresh, organic food is a human right and strives to revitalize urban communities through local farming practices. FarmerJawn operates as both a for-profit entity, FarmerJawn Farming & Retail, and a non-profit entity, FarmerJawn & Friends Foundation.
Visit FarmerJawn at Westtown Store from Wednesday to Friday, 10am-6pm, and Saturday to Sunday, 9am-3pm to join in their mission of promoting health and wellness through sustainable farming practices.

"I stopped by there today thinking that it was still under the old owners. My heart jumped and I was so excited that I gave her an applause that she owns this business now. And she's a farmer, a BLACK FARMER! Please support this business especially if you're African American. I personally will be going by 2 see if there's anything I could do to help her. She has my number and she has to do it, call me. I will definitely support my black former. Call mom"
