"I recently had an experience at Westwood Apartments that I feel compelled to share. While the location and layout of the apartments are commendable, there are serious issues regarding the management and maintenance that potential renters should be aware of. Firstly, the condition of the essential facilities like elevators and fire alarms is deeply concerning. The elevators often malfunction, which is not only an inconvenience but a safety hazard, especially for residents on higher floors or those with mobility issues. More alarmingly, the fire alarms have been non-functional for several months, a critical safety oversight that cannot be overstated. The recent fire incident on January 6th, 2024, highlighted these issues starkly. The lack of functioning fire alarms could have had disastrous consequences, and the management's response during and after the incident was underwhelming and disorganized. The safety and well-being of residents seemed to be a secondary concern, which is unacceptable. Moreover, regular maintenance issues like heating, cooling, and electricity are not addressed in a timely manner, leading to discomfort and inconvenience for the residents. The overall lack of responsiveness from the Capreit Management Company adds to the frustration. While the community itself is pleasant, and many residents are friendly and cooperative, these ongoing issues with management and maintenance significantly mar the living experience here. I hope this review serves as a call to action for the management to address these critical issues promptly. Potential renters should be aware of these concerns and consider them when making their decision."
"At around 5pm on January 6th 2023 the apartments experienced a power outage that resulted in an almost catastrophic failure of power in the building that left most residents with some or no electricity in the building. The power outage was caused by an electrical device, like a transformer, exploding and catching fire. The fire, which was on one of the parking levels below the building caused smoke to rise up into the building and fill the floors. I don’t exactly know how far the smoke got upstairs. I discovered the fire by chance when I opened the front door to the apartments to see what was going on. Mind, whoever is reading this, that the buildings fire alarms have not worked for almost two months. The managements solution for inoperable fire alarms was to post signs near all the elevator gates on each floor that say the fire alarms aren’t working. In case of a fire call 911 and evacuate. Trust me when I say a lot of people have complained about that but complaints are only addressed if the management has a complaint to address with you. Sounds crazy I know and I’m not saying this is everyone’s experience with management about these types of situations. Anyhow, my two children and a friend evacuated into a gaggle of people assembled in the lobby that was full of smoke. Firefighter were present trying to navigate through the gaggle of people just standing around. There was no direction and it seemed like the firefighters wanted us all out of the way. So a lot of us returned to our apartment. Hours later, at around 9pm, a county inspector came by our apartment. They were checking all the apartments to see if the heaters work. They also informed us that we had to eventually evacuate the building because it will take some time to fix the problem. The accommodations they offered my family was cots at a recreation center. It’s now January 7th 2023, and we still haven’t received an official update from management as to the status of the repair and my apartment has no heat and no hot water. I can’t believe that this apartment building is still operating. Things are broken all the time such as the fire alarm, the elevator, the garage doors, etc. Safety is an issue also. People that don’t live at the apartment’s like to drive up and park out in the back lot and smoke weed and listen to music so loud at times that tenants will confuse the noise for coming from someone’s apartment and complain. The management honestly does not care about anyone here. They’re only worried about collecting the rent. The only time I would hear from them was about money matters like renewing our lease or selling something. I’ve sent them complaints about many things just to get answered with supposed complaints that they had about me. Most of the time they would just ignore them. My wife has emails to the property manager that have no reply’s to this day. But they will send letters and emails to you about things without having acknowledged anything I have communicated to them. I also can’t believe that they do not have a proper plan in place for events such as a power failure of this magnitude. This is a total failure, I believe, on the managements part, to MANAGE THE PROPERTY and to plan with the tenants interest and safety in mind. I will say that our maintenance guys are hard working and awesome. Those two guys take care of this whole building. Yes. Two guys and they do the best that they can. This review will get reposted if this it gets deleted and I will write this review wherever I can. All these 5 star reviews have to be fake. I see the same complaints going back a decade or more. Capreit is the company that manages this building. They will get a word from me, too on Monday morning. Also, despite what a few of these reviews say about this place, it is not cheap to live here. Beware."
"Potential new tenants beware. Six weeks after I moved in and I still do not have reliable hot water to bathe or keep a clean and healthy kitchen. The gentleman charged with fixing it has told me 4-5 times that it’s fixed. He comes by without a thermometer, wiggles his fingers under the running water in the tub and declares it fixed. Never tests the bathroom sink or the kitchen. And no record made obviously of the data that should have been recorded on the visit. Then management backs him up! With no record of the visit. Potential new tenants, look twice before you leap. I moved here to be closer to work, but as of now I regret it. Maybe management will turn it around, but the comments here from other folks don't promise much. The lights were out in back of the building at the door and in the parking lot, making it dangerous in the early morning. The lights were on today, after I complained, but will they be on tomorrow? Every day? The poor service here so far shows the follow through just is not there. The "hot" water is a great example. I moved in approx two weeks ago and do not have dependable hot water, nor is it hot enough for a sanitary kitchen. I often wait ten minutes for it to get lukewarm. I've asked so often -- and been told repeatedly that it's fixed -- that I don't have the energy to keep trying. The repairman came without a thermometer, so he had no way to even know if his fix really worked. The one bright spot here for me has been the front desk staff-- different from management. Vee and Stephen and John and the others have been great."
"The Maintenance team here is fantastic! We especially love Leon!!!! He is the best—he comes so quickly any time we have a service request, and knows how to handle any problem we throw his way! He is such a cool dude and really cares about the tenants and is truly there to help and create a positive atmosphere."
