The Hidden Pantry Cafe
● Closed59 Blatchington Road, Brighton and Hove, Hove BN3 3YJ, United Kingdom“Update: Still delightful. The rooibos Gingerbread chai tea is magic and the halloumi brunch pretty special. But the chicken burger, with added cranberry sauce, was emotional. The taste of the 90s, right there. It's a big meal, but a journey worth taking. Just delightful. Can, cosy and surprisingly tucked away from the street. Has the feeling of nanna's pantry, and the taste. Food was on warmed plates, with healthy portions and honest ingredients. Those mushrooms in tarragon butter.. inspired. Run by a friendly team and well worth a few visits.”

Brighton Surf Hotel
● Open16 Charlotte Street, Kemptown, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN2 1AG, United Kingdom“Great location, next to the beach and a few minutes away from St James Street. Single room was a bit on a tight side with also a cramped shower but was clean, well equipped and good a decent night's sleep. The room on the top floor could get quite toasty, but opening the window for a breeze solved that, didn't need to use the fan and it would be a big advantage in the winter. Self check in system was easy and Jeremy was very helpful. Hand soap smelled fantastic!”

Cafe Ringmer
● Closed58 Springett Avenue, Ringmer, Lewes BN8 5QX, United Kingdom“A great local cafe in the parade of shops in Springett Avenue Ringmer, just over the road from Ringmer Green. The food selection from breakfast to afternoon tea was very tempting. I had brunch, a great BLT and Late. I asked if Gluten Free Bread was available and yes it was a big plus for me. The environment was modern with a warehouse/industrial nut warm welcoming style. There are benches outside if you wish to take in the view of the South Downs.”

Better in summer when the fabulous paddling pool. Is hugely popular. But the cafe has a great menu ranging from snacks to cooked meals and superbly friendly staff. Owned by Fat Boy Slim who is often seen serving and enjoying himself here, David Walliams also turned up and testimony to people of Hove, they were just said hello to and not pestered. WOLFOX Health Cafe
● Closed“On a visit to Infinity Foods Saturday of last week I noticed on the shelves a coffee I had not encountered before, Wolfox. Not that I would buy coffee from Infinity Foods, not when spoilt for choice in Brighton and the coffee will be freshly roasted. Sunday the following day I passed by their coffee shop. Wolfox Coffee. New. I have never noticed before. I saw their coffee in nearby Infinity Foods on Saturday. Claimed to be specialty coffee. Girl did not know q grade. But she brewed an excellent coffee. I picked up a bag of coffee. A criticism, coffee when the coffee roastery, should be freshly roasted. Most of the coffee on sale was roasted in October. No excuse for this, the coffee should be rotated. I picked up a bag roasted November. The walnut coffee cake looked good. It was not. I should have known better. It was vegan and vegan cakes are nearly always disgusting. A couple of days later I revisited Wolfox and had take away vegetable soup. Not hot, warm. but tasty. Not the weather for sitting in the street with a takeaway.”

Redroaster Cafe
● Open1D Saint James's Street, Kemptown, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN2 1RE, United Kingdom“Redroaster has been reliably good and didn’t disappoint on this visit. A quiet pre-Christmas day so easy to get a table. Staff are friendly and relaxed. The roast cod on rosti was very good (possibly a little one note - a contrast flavor/texture would have added something). The poached eggs on sourdough were appreciated. My oat flat white was excellent. The ambience is still strong. We will be going back!”
