"Ding Darling is a Wildlife Preserve on Sanibel Island Florida. It is in the recovery stage from Hurricane Ian nearly two years ago. You will experience beautiful clean water, a large variety of birds , fish and a few Iguanas. There are restrictions and some closed areas that are being restored including trails ,boardwalks and backcountry areas. It is closed on Fridays for bird rest( the animals need their space too ). There is an admission fee as well as a fee to cross the causeway. After two years since Hurricane Ian much has changed and be respectful as reconstruction and limited access as well as limited lodging and supplies continues. The small businesses are recovering but Baileys General Store is now leveled and hopefully will be rebuilt soon. It is still a magical place ."

"Provides a great overlook to scan the area for birds or other wildlife. Best time is at low tide when all the waders and shorebirds come in."

"Great place to watch birds! Can be buggy if there's no breeze. Once the wind started after dawn the no-seeums went away, and it was really enjoyable."

"When we stopped we happen to be the only people there.no cars, no voices no distractions except the mother manatee and her calf and the ever jumping mullet fish. So peaceful and beautiful.."

"This spot is absolutely amazing. If you want to be one with almighty nature when she is both calm and showing off - you definitely want to stop in here with a camera. Make sure you have plenty of storage space or film....you are going to want to go National Geographic up in here."
