"Great hike! Saw some alligators (quite far away, but still a bit scary) and a couple of owls!"

"This is a hiking and biking trail through wetlands and woods, ending at a group of water retention ponds where a variety of birds and reptiles can be observed. The trailhead is at the Sanibel Chamber of Commerce, where parking is available. The trail can be muddy during wet seasons. The ponds are where recycled water is stored for use on the island. Pelicans, herons, egrets, storks, anhingas, cormorants, ibises, and ducks frequent these ponds. Alligators, iguanas, snakes, and turtles are common. One of the best places to view wildlife on the island, apart from the national wildlife refuge. At the ponds the Pond Apple Trail meets the Shipley Trail, which goes to the Bailey Homestead site."
