"I called over a month ago and Mary set up an appointment time to come visit my residence and my dogs. She set the appointment for three days before we were set to leave. When she arrived with her assistant one of my dogs, a dachshund, ran out and "bit" her. We had three other dogs who were perfectly fine with her and her assistant. However she went on and on about how that she had never had a dog not like her. She never asked any questions about the dogs and she seemed very nervous around the dachshund who either stayed next to me or was laying on the floor. You would think for someone who takes care of animals that they would want to get to know the animals more and ask actual questions about their behavior. She never held her hand out with the palm up to try and get to know the dachshund. I would have thought that someone who takes care of dogs for a living would know what it took to get a dog familiar with them. The dachshund did walk up to her several times and she ignored her. Mary was acting very nervous with her and just sat there. Her assistant however petted the dachshund and even had her sitting next to her. The one "good" thing Mary did was name drop for us. She referred to several local veterinarians by name and spoke about them as if they were friends. She insisted that she call our veterinarians about the vaccinations. They had lapsed since we had several medical issues that kept us from being able to get them in. Not the best thing in world, but we needed to be gone for the weekend for my sister's wedding. Mary went back and forth about whether she would actually sit for our dogs. She asked if we could get them in for vaccinations before we left. I told her I had a CT scan for cancer the next day and would be in the hospital for most of the day, and we were leaving early Friday afternoon. Finally after she further wasted our time, she agreed she would come to the house the 3 times we asked for. I had the check written up and we gave her a key to get in. We thought we were good as she verbally agreed to take care of our dogs. First thing the next morning she calls and tells me that she can't take care of our dogs and that she wasn't comfortable doing it. This was very unprofessional since I think she never had any intention of taking care of our dogs, but waited until the next morning to say something. She should have said something that night before she left. I understand she has a policy in place and fully respect that and if she would have said then and there at the initial meeting she could not take care of the dogs, I would have been completely fine with that. However, as it was we were left with under 36 hours to make additional arrangements. I understand not everyone does confrontation well, but I wouldn't have been upset if she had just said no from the beginning. Instead she wasted my time going back and forth while she sat here and then left my home letting me think that she was going to be taking care of my dogs. To anyone thinking about using her services, I suggest thinking twice unless you want someone to cancel on you after verbally agreeing to take care of your animals. I would also be sure to request a meeting a few weeks before you plan on leaving your home so that you have ample time to make other arrangements if necessary."
