Reviews
"The Jesse is a wonderful charming hotel with fantastic and friendly staff The food is amazing and the drinks are delicious Two thumbs up!"
"This is a very cute space to stay in while in Reno. The hotel looks just like the photos online and was easy to find. Parking was easy and the check in process was efficient. If you read the reviews and information posted there will be no surprise that you can hear pretty much every noise outside of the building. Also there are steps. I took away one star because when we opened the mini fridge there was a to go box in there."
"Cute boutique hotel with a bar down stairs. The staff was friendly, and made me feel at home! I love this place, and I will be back! Thank you for making this part of my trip easy!"
"DO NOT STAY HERE! This self designated "boutique hotel" is unsafe and dangerous! STOLEN PERSONAL PROPERTY AND THE HOST TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY! We parked in the PRIVATE parking lot of The Jesse and had our $5k eBikes stolen, even double locked with a BRINX. This property is a different atmosphere than portrayed. Although a charming courtyard and bar, we had to receive our key from...the bartender. First red flag. No mention that the stairs to our room are EXTREMELY STEEP. Upon entering the room, it seemed hip enough, with the bed being comfortable and the tall brick walls felt like a loft. The bathroom door, however, has a clear glass panel on it, so while in the shower, if the room door is left ajar, the shower and toilet are completely exposed to the stairwell. Earplugs are necessary as there is constant yelling and screaming from the extensive transient population heading to the bus station next door. Cleanliness is also an issue for this room. With a layer of dust on things like the window sills, where you can sit, to the foot stool and even the bathroom sink had a layer of grime from the previous guest. White socks show no floor cleaning between guests. We left after checking in and did not arrive back to the hotel until 9:20pm, to find the building completely dark and locked. We received no warning or were advised of this. We finally found a door, with a metal graffiti plate. This was the key pad? Stepping around an addict yelling at us while entering was NOT FUN."
"So, this will be a review of everything about our stay here, and I hope everything here is constructive and helpful as you plan your trip to Reno. To start, we believe that the Jesse is likely the best hotel in Reno. Our family who comes into the Reno area frequently said the same. It is much, much better than the Casinos in the area, and really did feel like a pocket of modern comfort in a city that feels run down, in a way. The staff - super friendly, inclusive, helpful. This is both around hotel management and the bar staff. Everyone genuinely wanted to be helpful, and wanted us to have an incredible experience. You’ll feel very welcomed by the staff at The Jesse, which really makes all of the difference. Staff Feedback - not having any staff there at night or early in the AM for safety reasons made things feel a little iffy. It would have been really nice to have a friendly face around for “just in case” reasons (I will elaborate in just a moment.) The rooms - we stayed on the top floor, which was a climb with bags (and loud - sorry!), but the room we stayed in was incredibly comfortable. You can tell the care that went into renovating the building originally. The bed was huge, and the fixings were all sleek and modern. We enjoyed the packet with suggestions for the area, too. Room feedback - there was a lack of towel racks in the bathroom which we found a little odd. Like for hand towels and the like, maybe adding some under the big mirror would be good to make it feel a little more finished in there. Also making sure the soaps were refilled, some of ours weren’t. The double remote situation with the TVs was also a little frustrating sometimes. The instructions provided were great to help us figure out what might have happened, but the cable went out completely one or two times. The Location - this is the biggest piece of critical feedback I have, though there’s likely nothing you can change about this. The location is troubling. The surrounding area is flooded with homeless people, many of them seemingly afflicted by addiction or mental illness, making them highly unpredictable. Once nightfall hit, I did not feel safe leaving the hotel, and my partner and I are from New York City, which is saying something. This was exacerbated by all of the shouting, screaming, fighting and cursing you’ll hear from your room at all hours of the night (in addition to traffic noises). It’s scary, so if you are looking to stay here with kids - look elsewhere maybe. This is why it would be important to have nighttime staff. Just having someone around would make things feel better. Also, not making people go in and out of the street side door at night or early in the morning would be best, as making guests walk around the building to the parking lot was scary, as I truly didn’t know if someone was going to sneak up on us. The food - the Estella is amazing!! Incredible tacos and drinks, with a bartending team that really wanted to know if you were enjoying your custom cocktail. During the morning time, the “Cup of Joe & Slice of Pie for $5” is great; a good deal. The pie was also tasty. I think there’s an opportunity to have more breakfast items on a small menu though to really round out the experience. Parking - dedicated spots for overnight guests, which is great. Again, I can’t say more positive things about your staff. Great hiring. We also really enjoyed the vibe at Abby’s Highway 40. Great dumplings and the outdoor patio in the summertime must be fantastic. All in all - we’d come back to the Jesse if we ever find ourselves in Reno again, and though they can’t move their location, we have hope the neighborhood will continue to be cleaned up."
