Motel 6 Monterey, CA - Downtown

"Good, but not really: PRICE. Not a value at all because of all the things wrong. Pluses that were important to us: pets stay free (but can't be left alone in room even if they're well behaved), there was a table and two chairs, small nightstands with cubbies on both sides of the bed, a mini refrigerator, a microwave, free parking, free wifi. I think there was coffee available in the morning, only in the office. There's a shopping mall that's very close by that has things like a drugstore, a grocery store, a variety of restaurants, and many shops. There's also a Trader Joe's nearby. Things that need to be improved. 0.5. My dog stays free but I have to pay an extra $6 a night for my husband?! I thought this was kind of funny but also ridiculous. 1. When we arrived there was a sign on the ice machine saying it was broken. I am not sure whether or not that was fixed before we left. 2. Mattress was extremely firm and painful for me to sleep on. No box spring. 3. Even with the curtains drawn and all lights off, the room still had a lot of light. A surprising amount of light came through the peephole in the door, but at least I was able to shove some toilet paper in the hole. 4. Walls were thin. Among many other sounds, specifically I could hear somebody's alarm, I could hear somebody running water/turning knobs, and I could hear somebody urinating (into the toilet). 5. There was a *very* small rack with 3 or 4 pegs that a few things could be hung on, and a small shelf. There was no closet, there was no chest of drawers, there was nowhere to put my clothes/toiletries/things (unless you count the table, which we, ya know, wanted to use as a table) 6. Our reservation was for three nights, and we arrived on a Tuesday. Because of all the noise and light and a bed that was painful to lie (lay?) on, I barely got any sleep. By Thursday afternoon I gave up and went somewhere else. 7. The next time we're in Monterey we will definitely not stay here, and I've pretty much given up on Motel 6 all together at this point."

"I paid $80 a night for 2 nights during Thanksgiving. Great deal for what I paid. Reasonably clean, great shower pressure (I enjoyed showering here), no carpets a plus (hardwood and tiles) toilet sit a bit worn out but clean. Zero decor and charm, ugly furnishings and colors (it cost them a star), but for $80 bucks could not expect more. Large room with 2 clean, large firm beds (only needed one). Large screen TV with many channels. Plenty of free parking. The staff was friendly and they have a lovely and very friendly little pomeranian dog that loves it when you pet him. I spent all day out and just came in to sleep, so it was perfect for what I needed. Clean, practical, good beds, good deal."

"Appreciate the location in Monterey. Motel recently renovated. Staff very friendly to guests and their animals. Quiet area although on a busy street. Grounds are clean and well kept. Felt safe staying in the area."

"Clean, spacious room, lots of sleeping options. Plus a fireplace! The Vietnamese place next door was a bonus. Got to meet the pomeranian at the front desk, super precious. We tend to go to motel 6 for the pet policy (no pet fee for 2 pets), and we're easy going- a clean place to shower and sleep and we're content. This is one of the nicer motel 6s we've been to, seems like it's a converted mom and pop motel. Quick drive to the ocean to enjoy a long walk."

"No! Never ! They cancelled my order on the Motel 6 app because I mistakenly entered the price for a double room for one person, but I should have chosen two people. The prices were different, but without informing me, they used my credit card to steal the price of my walk in, which was $120. The actual price difference was nearly $20, and the female front desk said it was only $6, so I didn't mind. It's really strange! Don't you need to inform me and sign if you swipe my card at a different price? After I asked, I said I would place a new order from the app and the front desk would change the price on the spot. I usually choose Motel 6 every time I travel, and I am very satisfied every time. Only this one is so outrageous! I will still choose Motel6, but I will never come back to Motel6 at the entrance of this 17mils"
