About the Business

Alamo Plaza

Alamo Plaza is a historic tourist attraction located in San Antonio, Texas, United States. The plaza holds significant historical importance, as it was the site of indigenous camps before the arrival of the Spanish in the 17th century. The area was later home to Mission San Antonio de Valero, which eventually became known as the Alamo. Throughout the years, the plaza saw various military activities, including during the Texas Revolution in 1836.

After Texas' annexation to the United States in 1845, the U.S. Army used the Alamo property as a supply depot. The plaza underwent further changes during the post-Civil War era, becoming a bustling cattle town with cowboys and livestock passing through. In the late 19th century, the city of San Antonio worked to develop the plaza, leading to the demolition of historic structures and the city's purchase of the area.

Today, Alamo Plaza is a popular destination for visitors seeking to learn about the rich history of Texas and the United States. With its diverse past and significant events that have taken place on its grounds, the plaza remains a symbol of resilience and heritage in San Antonio.

"We took the toddler with us to visit the Alamo. We were able to take several unobstructed photos of the mission, and the little one was able to get some of his wiggles out while in the area. Recommend bringing a wagon or stroller for the little ones though as this area requires a bit of walking."

"If you do not know what happened here, I highly recommend the guided tour. This is hallowed ground, not a tourist attraction."

"I have been to the Alamo Plaza many times in the past during my travels to Texas and San Antonio and have always enjoyed my time visiting here. This most recent visit here at the Alamo Plaza felt like the plaza area was much larger than what I remembered it being as well as much more to see in it. Some of the notable attractions I saw this time were the sculpture of David Crockett, the San Antonio Cenotaph also known as the Spirit of sacrifice and more as well as much more in the future as they are doing major improvements to the Alamo and Alamo Plaza. I definitely recommend checking out this historical landmark and seeing all the stories and history here at both the Alamo and Alamo Plaza. I will definitely be back again when in San Antonio as it is one of my favorite places to visit."

"While standing outside on the plaza, after an incredibly hot day, an amazing sunset showed itself. A spectacular, fleeting moment inadequately captured."
