About the Business

Granot Loma

Granot Loma is a unique and historic estate located at 1000 County Road KE in Marquette, Michigan, United States. This stunning property offers total seclusion with over a mile of private beach on Lake Superior, including an island. The estate features a 140 foot-long Great Room with a massive fireplace, a chandelier made from a giant tree root, totem poles, and more. The dining room is perfect for any event, from corporate outings to family meals.

Originally built between 1919 and 1923 by Louis Graveraet Kaufman, Granot Loma is the largest log cabin in the world and a National Historic Landmark. Restored in 1987 by Tom Baldwin, this estate has a rich legacy of powerful men who have influenced events. Gerald Ford even considered using Granot Loma as his Western White House.

Inspired by the Gilded Age retreats in the Adirondack Mountains, Granot Loma showcases Adirondack Architecture with rustic materials and craftsmanship. Louis Kaufman built this estate as a rival to the luxurious camps in upstate New York, as he was excluded from traditional resorts like the Huron Mountain Club. Visit Granot Loma for a one-of-a-kind experience in Northern Michigan.

"Honestly this mansion is cool and the view of the waters is amazing but all the taxadermy stuff is weird and freaks me out. Mansion would be nice if it was near people!!! have to drive 200 miles to get to the closeted populated town."

"Beautiful Place Great History Was traveling in the area and noticed the large wind turbine and starting researching it and came across the place and it's history. Would love to visit and meet the current owner Tom B Tony Kowalczyk"

"Can't wait to revisit. In 1983, a college buddy of mine from Marquette visited it and had a vision it would make a great Institute of some type. We pitched it to our college - Georgetown U - but alas it was not to be. Still have photos of the chairs made out of trees and lumber. Glad to see it looks good and hopefully finds an owner."

"I visited it while in college in 1983. Was given a tour by the caretakers. It was - and remains - one of the most exquisite places I had ever been. With a fascinating history and a guest list that boggled my mind. From Muhammad Ali to George Gershwin. And me. If I ever win the Powerball lottery, I'm putting in an offer on it. Unfortunately, I don't play the Powerball. So yes, I see that as a hinderance to my plan."

"This historic home is in a beautiful location done in a classic old school rustic log cabin woods style. It was well built and was for sale. It remains one of few places i would consider purchasing if money was no object. The location is amazing, the layout impressive and the price not even a factor."
