Courtyard by Marriott Norfolk Downtown

"On 2/3/24 shortly before 5 PM, I called this location to inquire about group rates as my family is visiting for an event. I’m unsure if the representative I spoke to was just overly skeptical or not paying attention. As a woman with an unconventional name, I’m often not surprised or annoyed when when people ask me to repeat my name. However, this seemed to go farther than simply verifying my Bonvoy account information. I’d called another Marriott location earlier the same day and didn’t have to jump through this many hurdles. I repeated my full name 3 times, gave her my email address, she read it back to me to confirm and mentioned she needed to ensure she had the right account. She then asked me which date, and I assumed she meant the date of the event to confirm that the school had a listing/partnership with the hotel. I gave her the event’s date (a Saturday). She then asked how many nights and the dates of check-in and check-out, in which I replied with that information. Check-in would be the day before (that Friday) and check-out being the Sunday right after. She then states, “You said [date of the Saturday event].” It’s unclear if she was just having a bad day or if she thought I was trying to pull one over on her, but I won’t have my family stay here. I just wished her a good day and ended the call. As a member, it’s off putting to have to first listen to the audio recording and then go through an interrogation once I finally reach a live representative who I wasn’t even sure wanted to help me."

"Chose this hotel because it's location was convenient to my appointment. The room was somewhat pricey for what you get. Several pieces of furniture were quite banged up but other pieces had been upgraded. The bed was comfortable and the AC/Heat worked well. View was of the parking lot next door rather than the "city view" advertised, so don't expect an impressive view. Bathroom does not have an exhaust fan, but the vanity area is separate, which was convenient. The Bistro was overpriced and understaffed, however, the workers were very pleasant. I didn't mind paying mandatory valet parking for $25/day, but this information should be included when booking a room. The staff throughout the hotel was pleasant and friendly."

"Close to where we needed to be. Bed was soft. Shower was great regarding temp and pressure. Front desk staff were super nice. Put me in a room tucked away from the traffic. Let me keep the car in valet for an extra 30 min, but we ended up still picking up the car before our scheduled check out. They didn't blink an eye about allowing me to do so, which was great customer service. Valet staff were nice and helpful. They let me load my car up before we walked to breakfast. I'm happy to be a Bonvoy member. The Marriott chain is where to be."

"Can't recommend this place ENOUGH! From the second I walked in, every single staff member I encountered was an absolute sweetheart, super nice, professional, and extremely helpful in giving me the lay of the land (first time traveling to Norfolk alone and needed my bearings). Then, when I realized I had forgotten to book a second night, I went down to the front desk, fully expecting it to be a headache to figure something out. Instead, the lovely person working the desk got me a second night with a couple clicks, saved me some money, and then recommended some amazing foodie places within walking distance! She asked if I'd need any extra room service, ran through any concerns I might have for check out, all with the best smile on her face. I've stayed at dozens of places over the years and haven't had HALF as good service as I've had here. As far as the room goes, for me it's great and nothing fancy. Some others might be underwhelmed decor/amenities wise, but everything works and for someone like me who just needs somewhere safe to crash after exploring all day, this meets all my needs just fine! Showers are hot, beds are comfy, got a great top floor view of Downtown, I think this place knocked it out of the park!"

"Definitely recommend this hotel! Friendly staff that was very helpful in making recommendations regarding best dining and shopping in the area. Clean and quiet room with nice bedding. Clean bathroom. All in all a GREAT experience & value for the money"
