Baymont by Wyndham Salem Roanoke Area

"I have pretty low standards for hotels, but this Baymont was bad even for me. I actually thought about leaving and finding a different hotel but I was so tired I stayed. Nothing was hugely wrong, no dead body under the bed or anything, but everything was slightly broken or wrong somehow. Even check in took forever because something was wrong with their machine. Bad parts: When I got to the room I used the wall switch to turn on the light but it only turned on one light by the door, leaving it too dark to find the rest of the light switches inside the room, so I used my flashlight to find the light switches on individual lamps, and found that many were also unplugged. Once the lights were on I saw that there was a glass door leading outside to the lawn, which didn't seem to have a lock, two or three different locks were all apparently broken so what was left was a metal stick to prop the door closed. The glass doors also only had one thick curtain --instead of the usual one heavy and one light which allows you to get light in the room without people looking in-- so if I wanted any light from outside I had to have the whole room open for people walking by to look in. Then I saw the sink drain was closed with no way to open it, the chair in the room was missing one of the wheels so you couldn't sit in it without it tipping over, the clock radio was unplugged and the plug was nearly inaccessible though i did get it plugged in and set to the right time, and i put some items in the freezer section of the mini fridge and they thawed. In the morning I went to the breakfast room to make tea and the water was lukewarm. The room was also dirty under the desk and table and kind of ugly, messy paint job etc. It was also loud, music and stuff from neighbors, even though it was not a weekend. And some clanging around started about 5:30am. Good parts: There was one woman at the desk who was super on the ball trying to fix everyone's problems, pets stay free which is awesome, and the blankets on the bed were very comfortable! The view of the mountains from the area was beautiful. Also, I asked about the sink and the attentive woman at the desk asked maintenance to look, which to their credit they did quickly (but they fixed it by simply removing the drain cover). All in all my summary is that while nothing was horrifically bad (no rats, roaches, break-ins etc) but enough things were broken or messed up and just unpleasant that I will do my best to avoid Baymont hotels in the future if this is what they are like. Not worth the few dollars saved over other hotels literally right next door."

"Perfect location with nearby stores and restaurants. Friendly staff that cares about your well being and comfort ! Pet friendly also. Rooms are nice, clean and spacious. Beds are super comfortable! Free breakfast! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone. This the best placed I stayed and would definitely be staying again!"

"Rooms great. Love the set up on the outside.. and sliding door!! Service good but irritated me that he refused another night with my points because I lived about 30 mins away. He told me the police doesn't allow him to rent to locals. Location is horrible. Nothing is around. But I just say it was extremely relaxing there"

"Stayed here for 3 weeks. The reviews that say it’s outdated & dingy are correct. The hotel overall needs updates. The halls smelled weird, and the workout room was hot and musty smelling. The guest laundry only had 1 washer & 1 dryer & was never available we went to the laundromat in town. The bathroom wasn’t so clean .There was trash all in the grass in the back parking lot. That was sad to see. The positives about it are the shower pressure was amazing. And the water was nice and hot. The bed was very comfortable. If they updated the carpets and furniture gave it a cosmetic overhaul it would be decent. The one front desk lady heather I think her name was she was very nice! And the housekeeper she always made sure we had what we needed. And asked if we needed anything."

"Strange smell in lobby and in our room. The housekeeping is lacking and was pretty dirty throughout the hotel. Stains on the mattress and chair in the room. It seems as though they have long term residents staying there. Breakfast was wiped out by 7am on Saturday. The whole place needs a good cleaning and updated renovations. Pool was nice and it was right off the highway. I would not stay here again."
