The Southern Mansion 720 Washington Street, Cape May, NJ 08204

"Decided to take a girls trip with my MIL and daughter and booked the King room 12 as it was 3 of us. Check in process was very easy. The lady was super sweet, telling us everything we needed to know. She showed us how to order our breakfast, walked us to our room and even helped bring the bags up. With the Manison being adults only " only kids 12 or older" I was worried about other guests not liking the fact I had my daughter there. She is 11 going on 12. I made sure to call and asked if that would be ok before I booked. No one batted an eye about her and we had so much fun exploring the mansion. Thanks to the wonderful lady serving breakfast we found out we could go to the small room at the very top of the house. This became my daughter's favorite place and we even watched the sunset up there one night. It was nice to sit by the fireplace at night before bed. I like how close the shops downtown are from the manison, easy to walk to. This was our first but not our last visit. We can not wait to go back again. My only complaint would be about the heat in our room. The loft area got way to hot once the heat was on, but still leaving the main room ice cold. We worked through it and it did not ruin our stay but would have been nice to have all rooms heated to same."

"My husband and I just spent our 1 year wedding anniversary trip staying at The Southern Mansion. We had a lovely experience the entire time. We had never stayed there before, but definitely would again. I'm fairly certain we were the youngest people staying there at the time hahaha, but I sort of prefer it that way. The breakfasts were also delicious."

"Had an overall good experience. The breakfast is awesome. No complaints there. The rooms were nice, and the daytime staff accommodated me by putting a mini fridge in the room at my request. The daytime staff also allowed an early check in (due to a one off circumstance), which was so deeply appreciated. I have to give credit where credit is due. My one complaint is that the room cleaners took the one white robe out of the room during my stay. This concerned me because there’s a handwritten note on the bathroom door stating that guests will be charged $120 if the robe is missing. When I noticed the robe was missing, I called the front desk to let them know that the room cleaners took it, and I won’t be responsible for the $120, for a robe that I didn’t take. The woman on the other end was incredibly rude and told me that the front desk phone line is only for emergencies. I quickly realized that she wasn’t going to help, so I asked her to take note of this incident, so that the morning staff can make sure that this was taken care of. I was a little embarrassed and upset by this interaction, but I thought my concern was completely valid, as a guest. Also I want to note that I called the front desk at exactly 9pm, when I returned to my room after dinner. Overall I’m not sure how to feel, since every other part of my stay was relatively stress free."

"Some disappointing changes since the last time we stayed here. The breakfast buffet is no more. I for one enjoyed the buffet as it was a quick and easy breakfast experience if I wanted to get in and out without a long wait for food. Plus, there were no set times -- could come down for either the buffet or the sit down meal anytime. Now the day before you have to fill out a form, pick a specific time, and the only choice is the sit down meal. The fruit salad is like 90% melon -- yuck -- should be more generous with the blueberries and strawberries. How about raspberries, too? The food quality now is about what I could expect at any diner. Nothing special. Considering I have to fill out a form selecting my breakfast choices and a specific seating time the day before, there should be no reason to experience such slow service -- which was a source of frustration every morning. Also, I thought this was a higher-end bed and breakfast, and the woman who is apparently in charge of the breakfast service was wearing a Misfits tee-shirt. Wow, didn't know this was the Wildwood boardwalk! There is no afternoon tea, either. For the prices charged here, they are going cheap with things and I for one will be going to a different B&B with more flexibility and services the next time in Cape May."

"This is a beautiful old mansion about half mile from the beach. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is friendly but there are literally no amenities except on site free parking. Coffee in room: no Refrigerator/Safe: no, Room service: no, restaurant: no, Bar: no pool/hot tub/gym: no, no and no. The shower in our room was pretty poor but the room itself was spacious and nice. A duplex if you will with an upstairs bedroom and a very nice sitting room with a view of the street. Overall it's a nice property if you are seeking a sleep only situation."
