Historic Tulipwood
● OpenHistoric Tulipwood, located at 1165 Hamilton Street in Franklin Township, New Jersey, is a must-visit tourist attraction. This beautiful institution was constructed in 1892 and is a rare example of the Shingle Style in Somerset County. Believed to have been designed by New York architect J. August Lienau for attorney Stephen G. Williams, Tulipwood has a rich history that adds to its charm. In 1920, the property was sold to Rutgers University professor Leigh W. Kimball, whose family owned the house until it was purchased by Franklin Township in 2003. Tulipwood has retained its original beauty both inside and out, with a gambrel roof, porch with Tuscan columns, and six-over-six windows with louvered shutters on the exterior. The interior features wood paneling, exposed beams reminiscent of old English design, and a fireplace with intricately carved mantels.
