Originally comprising 16 officers, the unit quickly expanded, moving to its current location in Forest Park by 1893. Over the decades, the unit has adapted to the changing times, overcoming challenges such as the advent of automobiles, which temporarily led to its disbandment in 1948. However, thanks to the vision of Mayor A.J. Cervantes, the unit was reestablished in 1971 and has since become an integral part of the city's law enforcement.
