Harvey Reservation
● OpenHarvey Reservation, located in Gloucester, Massachusetts, United States, is a picturesque park offering stunning views of Ipswich Bay, Crane Beach, and Plum Island. It is the perfect spot on Cape Ann to enjoy a beautiful sunset. The reservation features a short trail, a granite bench, and a great location for a seaside picnic. Before the breakwater was built at Lane’s Cove, Indigenous people used to fish from the rocks and explore tide pools for crabs in the area. Archaeological findings have revealed artifacts dating back to the Late Archaic Period, around 5,000 years ago. The Eastern Woodland people who inhabited the region utilized the staghorn sumac for various purposes, from medicinal tea to vegetable dye. They also collected unique volcanic rocks, extracting phenocrysts and crystals like purple feldspar and olivine, which they considered magical stones. Petroglyphs carved into bedrock slabs and outcrops by Indigenous people can still be found in the area, though they are now submerged due to sea level rise.
