About the Business
Welcome to The Bogs: A Natural Oasis in Mattapoisett
Nestled in the heart of the Mattapoisett River Reserve, The Bogs offers a unique southeastern Massachusetts landscape just minutes from Interstate 195. Located at 138 Acushnet Road, Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, this serene park is owned by the Buzzards Bay Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and health of Buzzards Bay and its watershed.
Explore a Rich Tapestry of Habitats
Spread across 212 acres of conserved land, The Bogs is a haven for nature lovers, offering four miles of trails that meander through woods, freshwater wetlands, and picturesque retired cranberry bogs. While these bogs are no longer in commercial production, wild cranberries still dot the landscape, providing a glimpse into the area's agricultural past.
A Sanctuary for Wildlife and Adventure
The Bogs is more than just a park; it's a refuge for a diverse array of wildlife. Visitors can spot frogs, turtles, dragonflies, and a variety of birds, including ospreys and red-tail hawks. In the fall and winter months, ducks and geese frequent the shallow waters. The park's trails are popular among walkers, mountain bikers, and dog owners, who are reminded to keep their pets under control and clean up after them.

Reviews
"Update: In 2024 the Coalition began a project to restore the bogs. It’s going to take a while, but I’m excited to see how they transform this place. I moved my review to 3 stars, because unfortunately I feel like a lot of mature growth was destroyed, including some very old trees. Regardless of the restoration, the Bog photos you see in my photos are no longer relevant. Going to be at least 10+ years before it looks like that again. An amazing spot for a nice walk or run. Very well kept and beautiful. My only cautionary note is be careful here: it’s a great spot for dog walking. While I love dogs, I’ve caught a few unleashed dogs by surprise on my runs and had some close calls. Some folks let their dogs run free and not all of them are friendly."
"Great place to relax and enjoy nature. There are trails in the woods and open paths at the bogs. Never crowded (but usually a lot of dogs) and very peaceful no matter the weather"
"This place is great if you want a nice walk in some nature and if you go into the woods there are a lot of tasks back there and it's a really good place to clear your head"
"Beautiful little path through formerly cranberry bogs. Lots of butterflies, birds and red ear slider turtles."
"This is a great place to bike! Along the boundaries of the former cranberry bogs and Some wooded paths. Many turtles, dragonflies, birds, and butterflies! No marked trails, but a map is readily available online. Be aware The paths are dirt and grass. mountain bike tires are more suitable for this trail."
