"Coral Bay is not a clean facility. The front desk looks nice and clean, but behind the double doors, we were greeted with awful smells of ammonia and wet dog. It is rundown and dirty. If I had known the state of this place beforehand, I definitely would have had my elderly parent placed somewhere else."
"I am posting this review in hopes that it reaches the management and that some of the issues can be addressed. First I want to start by saying that I am sorry that I cannot give your facility a higher review, I hope that some of my concerns can be addressed so that I can come back and edit my review or even leave an updated review. I have a close friend that is staying at the facility. I have visited him several times and the details I am about to share are what I have witnessed and have heard from residents and visitors of the facility.... The first time I visited Coral Bay, I walked into a beautiful reception area. The receptionist at the front desk was very kind and helpful and has been every visit! However, upon walking through the doors into the facility, it is as if the front was a facade to hide what Coral Bay truly looks like beyond the front walls. The smell is the first thing that you notice. I understand that there are going to be smells that come from general use of the building, but there were also harsh chemical smells that nearly took my breath away. The halls were crowded and it became clear that the number of residents far exceeded the number of staff required to meet their needs and to insure the proper care and comfort of the residents. I believe that this facility strives to do their best for the residents and their loved ones, however there is definitely a lot of strain. I noticed a lot of stains of “unknown” substances on the walls and the elevators are constantly failing. The staff are wonderful however, I will say that I have witnessed at least one instance where a little more patience should have been afforded to a resident. I have only seen the inside of my friend and his roommates room and I am concerned for their health. I pray that the other rooms are not as unmaintained. I have seen dust along the window seal, around the window frames, and spots on the floor that appear to not have been properly swept and mopped in a long time. What concerns me the most is that there are blood stains on the curtain that separate the two residents in the room. This is very unsanitary and should be replaced. I was also told that the resident that shared the room has been asking for assistance with getting a shower for 3 weeks now. I understand the shortage of staff, but if this is true, then it is completely unacceptable. The residents seem like they are content but could be a little happier. I believe that Coral Bay has potential but could benefit from some changes. The primary concerns should be a thorough cleaning of the facility, and an increase in staff if possible. I also believe that Coral Bay could use a new paint/make over. The reception area is gorgeous and I believe that this beauty should be expanded throughout the entirety of the facility. I believe that it may help to increase the morale in the place. I appreciate you taking the time to read my review and I look forward to seeing Coral Bay revived to the former liveliness that I am sure it once had!"
"The facility is nice and located in a great location, however it is either short staffed or has extremely lazy staff. My adoptive father was supposed to be up and out of his bed every day to motivate him and prevent bed sores. Every time I went he was still in bed half way hanging off his bed and i had to ask several times for a portable oxygen tank for his wheelchair and help getting him into his wheelchair. One day I waited over an hour for help after asking at least 4 times. I finally left before I got even more mad. He said he pushed the call button for about an hour before I came up to see him and still no one ever came to his room. Every time i went in the call button was on the floor and even when I pushed it no one came. I had to go to the nurses station to ask for assistance and she was always very nice but she seemed like she was in a difficult position trying to find help. Today was the carnival there and I was told staff was outside with that so I would need to wait for help getting his diaper changed and him dressed and in his wheelchair. I wish he could have gone to it to get fresh air outside but he was never asked or dressed to attend. I would not recommend this place for short term or long term care. Hopefully the VA will change him to a new location. He has only been there a week so I am sure that it will only get worse. Usually places are great in the beginning and then decline in care but Coral Bay definitely needs to get more staff or something. I would say it’s just a one time situation but even tonight when we brought him back after dinner, we had to ask several times to get help with getting him back into his bed since he was so tried after our dinner outing. We stood there waiting 30 minutes and then my male friend went and said “I understand that you guys have other things to do but he is 78 years old and is ready to lay down and we also want to go home knowing that he is not sitting in his room waiting for hours. It won’t take y’all longer than 5-10 minutes. We already undressed him and tried to do it ourselves, but he is a fall risk, missing a leg, and dead weight so we aren’t trained to do it but we did try so we wouldn’t have to ask y'all again”. They finally came in, but you could tell that the staff was irritated that we didn’t leave and that we wanted to ensure they actually got him in the bed and out of his wheelchair. The place should be deemed for more independent, less medically compromised patients who don’t need any or very little assistance. Otherwise elderly patients will not be well taken care of. I was a nurse in the navy so I can tell what is right or wrong and if osha or a va inspector did a surprise inspection/visit, the facility definitely would not be considered 5 stars recommended CMS rated."
"The team at Coral Bay go above and beyond to ensure the comfort and well-being of their residents. They not only provide excellent medical care but also strive to create a warm and welcoming environment that feels like home."
