"Had a problem with the AC compressor in the middle of the heat wave recently. Called Steve's and told them about the problem . They said a tech was close and he could come over after finishing up at his first stop. He came over and figured out what the problem was and fixed it fast. I know they were busy but I never got the sense that they were rushing to get down. The tech I think was Mike,very professional and the price I thought was right . Should have posted this earlier. "When home A/C went out, contacted the service I usually used. Service/Repair technician came out and looked at the unit. Took unit apart and determined that a new unit was needed. Mind you, this was not upsetting at first, since the unit was installed when our home was built in 1984. Gave me an estimate for a replacement unit! Rather staggering in price, so I said I wanted to check around. Made many calls and most couldn't schedule until late July and installation would be be weeks later. That wasn't useful. Then I called Steve's and actually spoke to the owner, Steve Manley. We discussed the situation and he said he is "old school". Wants to know WHY it stopped before going forward. He was able to get someone out the next morning to check. Rich came out and checked out the complete unit. He initially found that the fan motor blade was broken and was in fact, getting caught and stopped running, thereby overheating the compressor and shutting it down. When he removed the broken propeller, the unit ran and there was the problem. Within in a couple of hours, a new fan motor and blade were installed; coolant checked, and the unit is back working. Even though the system is old, it is still operating without a flaw now. Here is the real deal. Instead of a $6,000 brand new system, $490 got us up and running!! Sure I know this might be a short time fix, but at least now I have A/C and time to determine what I need next, hopefully this fall when demand on systems and installation will be less then right now! And when that time comes, my one and only call will be to Steve's Air Conditioning, Heating and Electrical. And in fact, so should your first call. Honest, practical and I highly recommend them!! "I have used these guys 3 different times over the past 6 years... We have an old classic 20 year old Furnace, that keeps chugging along... 1st Time they were out, was after a different company came out and said it would cost $400+ to repair, and said we should replace it instead and gave us a quote. Rich (from Steve's Heating and Cooling in Mentor) fixed our broken motor with just some WD-40 and a few trade 'knocks' that loosened it enough to make it run again. So they restored our heat in the dead of Winter for about $79, same day service. A few years later they came by again and fixed our setup with a few new parts, reasonably priced... Let us know ahead of time the costs and such, v s buying a new one. Today they came out within 40 minutes of me calling first thing in the morning when our pilot light kept going out. Solid guys."
