Located at 4200 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee, the Knox County Government office is at the heart of a vibrant and historically rich community. Knox County, situated in the Great Valley of East Tennessee, is a place where history and modern governance coexist seamlessly. Established on June 11, 1792, Knox County is one of the original counties formed during the territorial administration, named in honor of American Revolutionary War General and the first United States Secretary of War, Henry Knox.
As of the 2010 census, Knox County boasts a population of 432,226, with its county seat and largest city being Knoxville. The county serves as a geographical centerpiece, marking the origin of the Tennessee River at the confluence of the Holston and French Broad Rivers.
The government of Knox County operates under a home rule format, led by the County Mayor and an elected County Commission. While the city of Knoxville has its own mayor and city council, residents within city limits participate in both city and county elections, ensuring comprehensive representation. Knox County is responsible for essential services such as the local school system, health department, and library branches, while Knoxville maintains its independent police department.

"I’m very unhappy at the proposed “Choto Landing Low Income Housing”. It doesn’t belong on busy Northshore Dr. There’s no grocery, bus system, our streets need repairs (money set aside for this has been taken away!!) the land has MAJOR flood issues. PLUS the money trail!! Money straight into the pockets of builders/developers pockets with LARGE tax breaks for TEN YEARS! This is supposed to help?? We need this revisited."
