Streamlined Fare Payments:
In our ongoing effort to enhance convenience, KAT is transitioning to a cashless ticketing system with the launch of katpay, an innovative account-based fare payment method. Set to launch on October 23, 2024, katpay allows passengers to "pay as they go" with a reloadable fare card or by adding value to their katpay account via the Transit app. Easily reload your account at the KAT Customer Service counter, online, or at retail locations throughout Knoxville. We propose transitioning to cashless payments starting December 2, 2024, pending a public hearing by the KTA Board on September 26, 2024.
Join us for two public meetings on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 5 pm to 6 pm, in the Community Room of Knoxville Station (1st floor) to learn more about these changes and have your questions answered.
Football Shuttle Services:
For the 2024 season, our Football Shuttle services have been updated. Shuttles now operate exclusively from the Civic Coliseum and Market Square, with unchanged pick-up and drop-off locations. Tickets are $10 roundtrip per person and are available exclusively through our official Transit app. Download it for FREE in your app store today, with tickets going on sale the week of the game. Reviews
"Ut football game was a disaster. First no one has any idea we had to download a app to pay for the shuttle. Even after we finally found it, it was very difficult to navigate the app. It would have been nice if kat would have posted this on the 3 major news stations and the radio instead of blindsiding everyone. 2nd you only had 2 buses as far as I know running shuttle after the game between the stadium and the colosium. Who ever is in charge of that should lose their job. There were people overheating waiting one a bus."
"1 star for taking away Beaumont route 13, some people that took that bus were old and some disabled.. Kat expects all to walk a long distance for some to catch route 15?? I'm one of them that ain't able and it's not fair and it's very careless of them. I've been a loyal passenger for years and this is what I get in return?? So messed up.."
"As much as appreciate the transit center and kat busses. I also appreciate the amenities. Having a lasting disability is hard being someone who needs to use the bathroom steer clear. Tried to go to the bathroom today and it was gag worthy felt really disgusted wet floors with no sign present, empty paper dispensers, all toilets were foamy, and the janitor was on the phone loudly. I asked to use maybe a family restroom and was told the women's restroom was fine. I like Kat but the transit center is dirty."
"Biased rules. They discriminate against minorities. And I don't mean blacks because they are definitely not minorities in that area. I've been harrassed a few times and I just had to live with it and move on. No action was taken. I can't help to wonder that if the situation were reversed, they would probably ban/suspend me from riding the bus permanently because I look oriental."
"The drivers and supervisors do a good job. The stops, the random time points and routes could use some improvement. They should select some regulars, on their regular routes for some input and actually take some of it into consideration. I'm willing to help passengers with advice on commuting and I'd love to get advice from people with more experience and knowledge."
