BVAS Wetlands Reserve
About the Business
Welcome to BVAS Wetlands Reserve
Located at 2115 South Tremont Street in the heart of Oceanside, California, the BVAS Wetlands Reserve offers a serene escape into nature, spanning 3.5 acres of rare undeveloped coastal habitat. Nestled alongside the Buena Vista Lagoon Ecological Reserve, our park is a sanctuary for an array of wildlife, including the endangered Light-footed Ridgway's Rail and other rare bird species.
Since its acquisition in 2016, the Buena Vista Audubon Society (BVAS) has been dedicated to preserving this vital ecosystem. Thanks to the generous support from the community and organizations like the Dorrance Family Foundation and Preserve Calavera, we are proud to spearhead the Wetlands Reserve Restoration Project. This ongoing initiative aims to restore and enhance the natural habitat, with efforts currently moving through permitting stages with local cities and resource agencies.
Our commitment extends beyond ecological restoration; we are deeply invested in fostering connections with Indigenous communities. Partnering with 'ataaxum Pomkwaan and the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians, our "Returning to Our Homelands" project re-establishes Indigenous ties to ancestral lands, enriching cultural connections and promoting healing through engagement with nature.
Visitors to the BVAS Wetlands Reserve can participate in a variety of activities, including cultural exchanges, ecological education programs, and hands-on restoration efforts. Our annual programs, in collaboration with Oceanside High School, blend traditional Indigenous knowledge with modern ecological practices, offering a unique perspective on coastal wetlands ecology.
We invite you to explore the natural beauty and rich history of the BVAS Wetlands Reserve. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a bird watcher, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, our park offers a unique opportunity to connect with the environment and contribute to its conservation.
