However, please note that a 2.5-mile segment of the trail will be closed for a major underground pipeline replacement beginning July 8, affecting the area between mile markers.
The GAP is also a venue for various events, including fully-supported rides organized by Haiti H2O over Labor Day Weekend, offering options like a family-friendly 12-mile loop or a one-day ride from Downtown Pittsburgh. Additionally, competitive and fun outdoor events, such as the card-picking challenge near West Newton, are regularly held.
Fall festivals celebrating vintage farm equipment, noisy demonstrations of antique tractors, steam-powered threshers, and more, add a touch of nostalgia and excitement to the trail. I felt comfortable and safe, as there were always people and activity along the way. Great views and many points of interest. A lot of work to rebuild a city, but this area definitely has seen a wonderful turn a'round that is inviting."
