Great Allegheny Passage (Western Terminus) Three Rivers Heritage Trail, Pittsburgh, PA 15222
About the Business
The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) is a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering 150 miles of breathtaking biking and hiking trails from Cumberland, Maryland to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Western Terminus of this renowned trail is conveniently located at the Three Rivers Heritage Trail in Pittsburgh, making it an ideal starting or ending point for your adventure.
Renowned for its scenic beauty, the GAP provides riders and hikers with stunning views of pastoral landscapes, charming small towns, and the majestic Laurel Highlands. It's no wonder that adventurer Erin Gifford featured it as a top bikepacking route in National Geographic.
The Great Allegheny Passage is not only a haven for outdoor activities but also a hub of community events and initiatives. The Great Allegheny Passage Conservancy is currently hiring a Director of Business Partnerships and Events to help generate revenue and support the trail's continued success.
Exciting developments are always underway, such as the installation of new e-bike charging stations at Canal Place in Cumberland by Mountain Maryland Trails. However, please note that a 2.5-mile segment of the trail will be closed for a major underground pipeline replacement beginning July 8, affecting the area between mile markers.
The GAP is also a venue for various events, including fully-supported rides organized by Haiti H2O over Labor Day Weekend, offering options like a family-friendly 12-mile loop or a one-day ride from Downtown Pittsburgh. Additionally, competitive and fun outdoor events, such as the card-picking challenge near West Newton, are regularly held.
Fall festivals celebrating vintage farm equipment, noisy demonstrations of antique tractors, steam-powered threshers, and more, add a touch of nostalgia and excitement to the trail. Moreover, the Ride for Recovery fundraiser supports important causes like the Faces of Recovery Fund and the Transitions of Care Fund through the McKeesport Hospital.
Whether you're an avid cyclist, a casual hiker, or someone looking to participate in unique community events, the Great Allegheny Passage offers something for everyone. Come explore this spectacular trail and be part of an active and vibrant community.

Reviews
"Wonderful views and great way to end the trip!!!"
"Place to see"
"Such a shame that this is supposed to be the start/finish point of the Great Allegheny Passage and there's not even a sign or an information board to indicate it."
"This trail is the best thing Pittsburgh has to offer cyclists."
"Not enough space to write such a positive review. Took this trail from Pittsburgh that eventually leads to Washington, D.C. I can see why it is so popular. I felt comfortable and safe, as there were always people and activity along the way. Great views and many points of interest. A lot of work to rebuild a city, but this area definitely has seen a wonderful turn a'round that is inviting."
