"I have NEVER had a better experience with any other doctor. Mind you this is my first time having an endocrinologist, but Dr. De Salvo explained everything perfectly without talking down to me. She was very concerned for my comfort the whole time and I've never had a doctor walk me so thoroughly through my results. The best part is the thorough notes that are in the portal that allow me to review anything she went over with me at a later time. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. De Salvo to anyone and know I will be well taken care of by her and her team."
"Beware of Dr. DeSalvo. Talk about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! It all started with her nutritionist. Mind you, I didn't request her, Dr. DeSalvo told me to go to her. I've had diabetes for over 30 years. I know the diabetic diets, exchange lists and calorie counts like the back of my hand. I was hesitant to go to the nutritionist but did so out of respect for DeSalvo. I am also morbidly obese, a great deal due to 2 medications prescribed to me by another IHC doctor. They combined caused me to gain 160 lbs. So the first thing I spoke about with the nutritionist was a diet I could follow. I'm used to dieting at 1,200 calories per day. We went back and forth a good 15 minutes before we finally agreed upon an 1,800 calorie per day diet. Guess what she sent me? A diet upwards of 3,000 calories per day labeled 1,700 calories!! I knew it was high just looking at it, so I counted the calories up and that's what it was. I was so upset. I didn't even want to talk to her. She kept emailing me, trying to play therapist. I finally pointed out the diet's calorie count. All she could do was apologize that I "felt that way." Apologizing for how I felt! So demeaning. Such a lack of accountability. So I apologized that she sent me a diet a minimum of 2,600 calories in the guise of 1,700 calories a day. The next time I talked to DeSalvo, hell was to pay. She immediately attacked me, saying how upset the nutritionist was and that I called her a liar. Again, no accountability for the diet that if I had followed, I would certainly have gained more weight. DeSalvo threatened to fire me if I didn't show more respect. She told me she'd find me a new doctor. No acknowledgement of the lack of respect I'd been shown by them. So degrading. I tried to defend myself. I asked DeSalvo if she had seen the diet and had counted up the calories. She said it looked fine to her. Again, no accountability. Rather an indifference for my health and well-being. Way more concerned about showing an united front. That they're right and I'm wrong. Also, DeSalvo flat out refuses to prescribe me the amount of long acting that I need. No explanation, no discussion, no considering my blood sugars. Yes, she can be oh so nice to my face, but in the end, she doesn't listen, look or consider who I am or my well-being as her patient. So I've left. Remember, in the IHC network, if you stop seeing a certain doctor, you can't go to any other doctor in the clinic(s) they're in. And there seems to be a shortage of doctors accepting new patients. So you're pretty much gauranteed being put on a waiting list for several months or having to go to a whole other city to get in. IHC sucks!"
