"this hut is absolutely amazing. delicious food, gracious and friendly hosts, beautifully built hut, hot sauna and wonderful ski access. i have gone on many hut trips and this was by far my favorite experience. highly recommend. communication with management/owner was swift and thorough as my party asked questions before our trip. nice work, Opus hut crew! you're creating amazing experiences for folks."
"OPUS is amazing. I've been five times now starting when they first opened. I proposed to my wife on Ophir pass, so it also holds a special place for me. An unreal experience with amazing terrain. Just visited again and it's gotten even better. The new owner has clearly made a lot of improvements, and it shows (beds, bedding, signs, beer, wine, battery banks, etc). Don't ever pass up a chance to visit this magical place! Recommend a spring visit for increased likelihood of snowpack stability."
"Opus Hut is an absolute must visit if in the San Juan’s! It’s in a awesome location, both for hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. It’s a European style Refugio with meal service provided and our host Ashley was absolutely fantastic! The rooms were great, the food was amazing, and best of all they have a no cell phone policy—complete tranquility. I couldn’t recommend more highly!"
"Great ski terrain and a beautiful cabin, but I felt like I was at winter fat camp. Our group of 20 paid approx. $9000 for 3 night's, lackluster amount of food, and 57 deg cabin temperatures. I don't think of myself as a glutenous eater, and I was left hungry after several meals. I thought it'd be great to come back from skiing with food readily made, but after staying here I realized that preparing my own food at a cabin the fraction of the cost was a much more enjoyable experience. Stack the skimpy amount of wood supply on top of this, and it leaves you with an odd feeling of the cabin being commercially optimized. Not an experience I care to repeat."
"Sadly my son and I never made it up to the hut for his high school graduation present due to the high avalanche risk posed by a massive storm that hit the area last week. And we will not likely ever go there. BUYER BEWARE: Although their policy states, “Groups deciding not to come when avalanche danger rating is High or Extreme as forecast by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center on the day of arrival will be given full credit to be used within one calendar year” they refused to offer a credit. Instead, Bob the owner, would rather put lives at risk than offer a credit. Bad decision making all around. ☹️"
