"Let's preface this by saying, I've never written a google review, but what I experienced at VCA Douglas County warranted one. They tried to charge me $42.00 dollars for 5 Carprofen pills when you can get the same amount at Walmart for $5.00. When I questioned Dr. Arthur, the medical director, she stated it was VCA policy to charge $30 to fill a prescription. So, that means they want to charge you $30 to drop some pills in a container. She had no real justification other than it's company policy. They took good care of my dog, which I am thankful for, but that is their job. Also, the front office staff was very friendly and helpful. When I brought up that it was crazy that they charge 740% more from a pharmacy a mile down the road, she took the opportunity to make a personal insult and stated "your dad was so much nicer and I don't have time to argue with you". My dad had initially taken the dog in because I am a teacher and I had a hard time finding a sub. I am straight forward, but only when needed, and when you choose to up-charge by 740%, I have a problem. If your medical director chooses to handle scenarios like this by falling back on corporate policy and taking personal shots at someone; it's simply poor leadership."
"We took our ailing, senior pet to VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital on the advice of our veterinarian who was unable to make an after hours appointment. We were assured of the choice because our vet made the referral and were not disappointed. The hospital is clean, modern, and looks like a new general hospital. The staff (we met two intake staff, two vet techs, and one veterinarian) were all excellent. Our pet had a thorough exam and we were given advice about options for treatment. The hospital staff were fully prepared to treat our pet then or draw blood for labs and see our regular vet the next day. We chose to have the lab work performed so our vet would have the result the next day (the ER has its own lab) and saw our vet the next day. Impressive, compassionate service."
"Dr. Arthur is amazing. She was very gentle with our cat Reni who is very sensitive and shy. She did great! Terry, the manager also made sure our baby is taken cared of. Everyone is so nice from the front desk to the doctors. Really appreciate you taking care of our baby."
"This place is not what it used to be... We brought our Huskie here 2 years ago and the original Vet who saw him gave him some medicine to clear up his crusty nose and help his pains he was having, like arthritis, and it worked great. We go back in here tonight for the same symptoms and the help is rude and the new vet says we need to do a $1200 biopsy for a crusty dried nose and to stop feeding him fresh food from Ollie because it could give him a heart attack, and then charges me $96 for wheighing him No prescription to help his nose or his pain Never coming back here again, ever!"
"Erin answered the phone to my cries and got me in immediately and had serious compassion in her voice! Andrea greeted us with love and concern escorting us directly to a private room. Within literally seconds, Dr Sanborn and Pablo came in with extreme kindness and levity. Kleenex was grabbed immediately by Pablo and Dr Lisa Sanborn made me laugh and calmed me. They do not overcharge, do not do unnecessary tests and immediately came up with a plan for my elderly terrier with unexplained pain. I am in debt to these four people as their true empathy and warm hearts gave me hope that this would not be the day I say goodbye! Go here and if I could give a 100 star review I would! God bless these amazing humans! Oh, and when I left Andrea and Erin were sweet, fun and shared stories about their amazing pups. I am in awe of this amazing crew!"
