"My daughter was a patient here from birth. At about 10 months old, she had a horrible stomach virus. Both of her parents are nurses so we tried to handle it at home. I was worried about dehydration and took her in. I was told she was fine and was still making tears (sunken fontanelle, lethargic, the works). I asked for lab work and was denied. Told him I wasn’t leaving without CBC, CMP. He finally reluctantly ordered it. The lab tech had trouble getting it. We were sent home, 40 minutes away, to wait for results… he said he already knew they were fine. About an hour later, I got a call from the office saying to take her to the hospital. Her blood sugar was 34… she was severely dehydrated. She became unresponsive en route back to the hospital. The local hospital couldn’t care for her as they were unable to start an IV after 12 tries (so dehydrated) … we were transferred to ACH where even the IV team couldn’t start an IV. She recovered (thankfully) and when we went back for follow up, it was like it was all a fluke. No apology for not listening to the parents. Then when she was 2, she had several WEEKS of being unable to keep food or liquids down. I took her in so many times trying to get her help. He prescribed Zofran and said it was another stomach bug back to back to back… even though none of the rest of us were sick. He refused to send a referral to GI, saying it wasn’t necessary. What harm would that have done for him to just send a referral? I finally changed pediatricians and in our very first visit, the new pediatrician asked about GI referral, saying this was probably celiac (we had already eliminated gluten and seen improvement, but didn’t have a diagnosis). She was shocked we hadn’t seen GI yet. She set up referral with allergist and GI and we soon found out, my daughter has celiac and a wheat allergy… now requiring epipens. We are so grateful for a diagnosis, plan, and that my baby is now thriving. But why couldn’t this have been handled from the beginning?? What would have happened if I was not medically trained and known what labs to demand? What if I didn’t start eliminating gluten and wheat from her diet? Parents, please be careful with your babies. Get the second opinion. Demand answers. You are their advocate."
"People that come in asking for a referral for counseling… by the time a parent gets to that point, it’s a serious problem and a serious request. If ever there was a cry for help, that’s it. Exactly 3 weeks later after calling a second time for the referral, still nothing. No follow up at all. What should I do, call back asking them to come to his funeral to let them know they failed him in the worst way??? Seriously, mental health is a tad bit more important than the common cold, so it should be treated as such."
"My 3 children have been seeing Eric Henley for years (since 2015) . He is beyond amazing. He takes his time and shows each patient that he cares and are attentive to what they need. It feels like he is family, and I trust him 100% when it comes to my children. I feel comfortable enough to ask questions or voice any concerns I may have. Dr. Henley takes service and professionalism to a new level. extremely competent when it comes to health and his cultural competency is by awesome. Truly the best doctor and always has a smile on his face!' You can tell he loves what he does."
"Dr. Henley has made it his personal mission to right the wrongs done by his previous staff. I am so glad I was able to stay under Dr. Henley's care. He's probably the best Doctor I've ever encountered. Intuitive, caring and extremely patient. 10 out of 10 with him and his new staff and location."
"The best doctor in the area hands down. My son immediately after he was born was airlifted to Children’s where he stayed for a little while. After he had been discharged we came in for his very first check-up with Dr. Eric Henley and were blown away by the way he handled our newborn, answered our questions, and his entire demeanor was just so pleasant and calming. Every day we had been at Children’s he had been receiving and monitoring my son’s progress so that when he saw him he already knew everything—we didn’t have to explain one thing. He is very calm and understanding of anxious new parents (I ALWAYS have an annoying list of questions as a first time mom, and he has never one time made me feel weird or bad about it). Truly couldn’t recommend him high enough."
