"About a half mile along a wide canal path (unlit!) from 40th and Camelback. No amenities, no parking, and nearby lots are 'permit only'. We visited in late February about 30 minutes before sunset, so knew our chances pre-migration for Summer would be poor...but no way I'll be in Phoenix in July!"
"This was an interesting experience. The bats are so small and fast that they’re gone in seconds. They came out in small groups, not one big group."
"Well we went in mid-october and only saw a very few bats come out. One of the other people that was there said he thought that most of them were already migrating away for the winter. But we hung around for a while to see if any more would come out but there weren't that many. So maybe we'll try it at a better time of the summer and see how it goes"
"This was a cool place to visit. The only downside of was there's no designated parking. I've read that people parked at Chelsea’s Kitchen, but the lot was full. We parked at the gas station on 40th and camelback rd. I think it was Sinclair gas, but its parking at you're own risk. There was also other cars parked there for the bats also so we tried to be quick. Once you park you still have to walk along the canal about 5 to 8 minutes to the cave. When you get there walk quietly to the gate. You can hear them making noise. I also read after our visit that the best time to see most of them fly out is June to September by October most of them have left and there's not as many to see fly out.. but this was still a good experience. I recommend seeing this at least once if you happen to be in the area."
"We parked at the gas station on corner and you need to open google and click the location and follow where it says to walk. From gas station we crossed the canal and walked on north side down gravel path. You will see the flood tunnel to your right. I see folks had parked at the restaurant next to canal as well. Get there about 30 minutes before full sunset. Once your there be quiet and watch as thousands of bats come out to eat. After you can also watch the feasting above the canal as they look for bugs. It was awesome."
