"I was really excited when I found Mel. To have a local braider in Surprise was ideal. I looked her up and booked because her work looked legit. The day of our first appointment I pulled up her address on my Apple Maps and headed her way. I was a little caught off guard when I noticed we were in a neighborhood and the address took me to a house. We knocked on the door and was greeted and we walked in and sat and waited still a little confused. The girl that answered then told us that her sister Mel’s salon was at a different location. Unfortunately the Apple Maps location was wrong. -Still needs to be fixed on Apple Maps by the way- So we got the correct address and went. When showing up we noticed there wasn’t any sinks for hair washing like you would normally see in a hair salon. So I asked about it and Mel said they didn’t have plumbing for sinks to wash hair. So I had to take my daughter all the way home to wash her hair and headed back to the salon to get her hair braided. Mel did a wonderful job but with all the issues I stated above she handled them very unprofessionally. Like the wrong address on Apple Maps was my error and not a business one. Also not having sinks in a salon to wash hair is a little different. Again I was very excited about having a local braider and was thrilled to support a small business. Impressed with her braiding we weren’t gonna let those inconveniences get in the way of booking again. Being a new business, we wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt as well as understanding that running a business is challenging. The week of December 18 we booked again and on her website and the only spots that were available were Christmas Day and the 26th for the month of December. So we went ahead and booked Christmas Day. In the comment section of the booking I put “If you are able to get my daughter in sooner that would be great if not we will stick with Christmas Day.” An hour later Mel texted me saying she wouldn’t be in Christmas Day. And I said that’s what was available on your website? So I was again confused, but Mel offered to do my daughter’s hair the 21st and we were happy about! We showed up to my daughter’s appointment. I left my 13 year old there while I ran errands. When I returned my daughter looked upset so I asked what happened. And she stated Mel was very aggressive with handling her head and hair. My daughter has been getting her hair done for years and this has never been an issue and she isn’t tender, headed what so ever. So this caught me off guard. She also said Mel was extremely rude to her. I paid and tipped and decided this wasn’t the place for us. Very unprofessional and doesn’t work well with children. Had very high hopes for this salon and its saddens us deeply."
