"After two years of struggling to pinpoint the cause of my son’s sudden refusal to eat, countless visits with specialists, and months of therapy, I came across a recommendation for Just Breathe DDS. At that point, treatment was a guessing game and our next step was a tonsillectomy. I was willing to try just about anything to avoid surgery for my three year old, if at all possible. To my relief, Dr. Chatfield’s office was peaceful and welcoming. Staff were more than patient with my son, who quickly felt at home. I was impressed by the comprehensive diagnostics, including an in-office CT scan and a sleep study. The results were thoroughly explained to me and I walked away with a much deeper understanding of my son’s underlying issues, as well as a realistic treatment plan. Two years of medical visits offered me less of an idea as to what could have been causing his symptoms, including open mouth breathing, drooling, and snoring, in addition to his food aversion. Dr. Chatfield confirmed my hunch about the issues being related. We finally realize that our son has a restricted airway and that his jaw is not developing properly. I had no idea that his current issues could lead to long-term health problems, other than the obvious growth restriction. We opted to pursue therapy and have been extremely impressed. Due to his issues, the mouth piece felt cumbersome to our son, at first, sometimes triggering his gag reflex, but Dr. Chatfield encouraged him to continue. Because of his positive approach, our son persevered and recently turned a corner in treatment. He is no longer gagging, or resting with his mouth wide open, and his drooling has decreased considerably. Our breakthrough moment came when I realized that our son is now silent when he sleeps, compared to his previous loud snoring, with intermittent gasping. I had no idea how significant that would be. We’ve been extremely pleased with our son’s progress and we look forward to seeing the outcome.
