"We feel so lucky to be living at the Californian and happily renewed our lease this past January. The maintenance team and property manager (shoutout Christian and Kaj!) are top tier and truly as good as they come. Management and maintenance always make themselves available and are swift in solving the very few “issues” we have encountered(air filter change, appliance questions). Additional highlights of living at the Californian is air conditioning/heating(we get coastal breeze and rarely need either), high tech appliances, sleek and chic interior/exterior, drought friendly landscaping, electric appliances (low bill), extremely clean and well maintained community areas, 10 minute drive from the beach and security for deliveries, all west of the 5!! It’s extremely pet friendly and there are resources for everything in the gorgeous lobby. Being located across from medical offices and directly next to a college campus that both have 24/7 security makes us feel extremely safe. It’s great being walking distance from very well lit shopping centers. We live on the first floor and forget the nightmares of having “noisy” upstairs neighbors because the infrastructure of the building is so good. We love peace, privacy and quiet and the Californian is truly a dream. The building also is full of young professionals and families who are all incredibly respectful of one another. 10/10, if you’re lucky enough to secure a unit, welcome home!!"
"I love the Californian! The building is brand new with amazing amenities, including a pool, jacuzzi, bbq, secured access, etc. It is well located in central San Diego, with easy freeway access and close to downtown, UTC, beaches, Mission Valley, etc. The local crave coffee shop and F45 are great retail tenants that add to an awesome vibe at the building! The community is a full of caring, like-minded residents who are laid back and good neighbors."
"Wow lots of haters. I have lived her for over a year. The place is by far one of the nicest places in San Diego. It’s a hidden gem. Sure are the parking spaces small yes but where in San Diego are they big? Parking has never been a problem on the street or in front of the building. It sure beats high rises downtown charging $160 a space. All the amenities are brand new. They have events quarterly for tenants. They only have 84 units so the pool, grill, and rec room are almost private areas. The alternative is you can go downtown and have a hundred people at the pool at once and have to request access to the bbq. Are the views the best in San Diego no but if you have an interior place you will not be disappointed. The exterior apartments are actually better priced. The other great thing is they gave no breed restrictions on dogs. Whoever that fool is that does not live here but feels the need to take pictures during construction is outta control. Let’s see his apartment before he provides feedback. I will also address the homeless people it is a myth. Property managers here are the best. They make you feel human instead of just a transaction. I would highly consider this property before any other place."
"Don't leave a single mark on the wall or they will charge you over $700 to paint the entire apartment. Basically, if you move here don't expect to get your full deposit back, no matter how careful you are. There are also a lot mentally ill homeless people in the area, doesn't feel safe, which makes this place incredibly over priced for what it is. If I could give zero stars I would, the one star is because the coffee shop in the building is amazing."
"The Californian has been under construction for 3 years. The giant condo complex next door was built in a year. I watched the construction crew struggle with the foundation for over a year on the Californian. They have started to lease apartments even though the gym and cafe aren't finished or close to opening. The property is always covered in litter and trash, even their "now leasing" flag is torn and mangled. The rents they advertise are 20-50% higher than the surrounding area and the only 'scenic views' are the strip clubs on midway and buffalo wild wings. The location is great, close to everything but the pricing is more like La Jolla, not Point Loma. Most of the tenants seem to be young wealthy implants. The homeless population on the street was driven away by construction closures but they seem to be creeping back into the area. For such an expensive apt complex they dont seem to invest in cleaning the property. Already the wooden beams out front are marked with sharpie vandalism which hasn't been cleaned. At least if you move in there's a good chance you wont have any neighbors for awhile. Also the Pechanga sports arena is being torn down and converted into apartments and condos. Advertising proximity to it seems silly since it will soon become housing competition."
