"Not a bad spot. Great Staff. Great Location. If you are looking for a good night's sleep, however, you should consider the construction noise. Sonder put a white noise machine in each room, but unfortunately it was no match for the all day jackhammering right outside that starts early in the morning. The hotel could also use room fridges (instead of a communal mini fridge) and a complimentary turnover service for guests who stay a couple of nights."
"Staying at the Baker in downtown SD was definitely my favorite Sonder experience thus far! I loved how intimate the hotel felt; there was someone to greet us at front, they wrote us a sweet welcome note, and the room was perfect. The rooftop was just the icing on top!! Everything was perfect and the location was amazing. Thank you Sonder for another great stay!!"
"Very safe, regular city sound, Roof top with gas grill and fridge and gas fire place. Awesome. We spent almost every dinner time there. Staff went beyond helpful. Great folks! Room was real nice. I really like the shampoo and conditioner provided. Grocery store 1 block away reasonable price.has beer and wine. There are homeless people around. Not a worry. No bother.free app for free Uber type rides in downtown.Busses 2.50$. Take you anywhere.. try looking up current events. Because lots going on. San Diego. Takes care of the people."
"My husband and I stayed at the Baker for a week. We found the Baker to be in a great location, walkable distance to lots of fun things. The grocery store on the next block was also very convenient. The room and facilities were very clean. The hotel aesthetic was so cute. The complimentary coffee and tea and water station was excellent. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The high end toiletries were much appreciated. The common areas of the lobby, main level bathroom and rooftop were also nice features and nice places to sit, and again super clean. The staff kept everything spotless. We read all the reviews before booking and were willing to take a risk as the price point with location was unmatched. We had a room facing the street and felt like while the street was loud as motorcycles, ambulances and vehicles come through, that the noise level was consistent with standard city living and nothing more. We selected the smallest room, again to have the most budget experience, while small, it was perfect for us. Again planning to spend time basically just sleeping there. The bathroom and shower were great, nice space, nice hot water. The ear plugs and sound machine were appreciated for sleep. My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay, and would definitely stay in the future. I think if you’re ok with air bnb, boutique hotel, or hostile type accommodations this would be a perfect experience for you. If you’re looking for a commercial standard hotel room, where you are going to spend lots of time inside the room this probably would not be your best fit."
"If like to take naps while at your favorite NASCAR event, this is the place for you! If the sound of every slamming door and beep from the room access pads lulls you into a restful slumber, this is the place for you! Otherwise, good luck trying to sleep. When you walk around the neighborhood, it is not as noisy as the rooms in the Baker, which seems to be on the loudest corner in San Diego. Hidden in the description of the place is "Noise-free guestrooms cannot be guaranteed", which is easy to overlook, but don't worry, when you walk into the room, they supply earplugs and a white noise machine, so at least there's that. Additionally, the rooms do not have any closets, dressers, or a fridge, and the nightstand has no drawers, so there's no place to put anything. The bathroom door didn't open all the way because of some random box. Apparently form is more important than function. We did not get a refund for our uninhabitable room, and went somewhere else after 1 night. Massive bait-and-switch, presenting itself as a fancy boutique hotel that is really a dressed up 1-star quality accommodation."
