"Small hotel within walking distance to the Gaslamp and convention areas but without the noise! Rooms are small but you have the amenities you need. Front desk service was very accommodating. They are updating their wifi system so connection is difficult if you need to work from the hotel."
"I decided to splurge on a nicer hotel while in town for a friend's birthday, and boy, did it cost me.... Between the additional $40 per a night parking ($50 if you want valet), the $20 per a night hidden resort fees, a $15 destination fee (no idea what that is?) and taxes, this spot cost me. So, over $75 in additional fees on top of my reservation. The security deposit was also $350, which was absolutely ridiculous, in my opinion. This was probably one of the smallest rooms I've stayed in. It did have the basics, though, coffee, fridge, and microwave. No morning, breakfast and their restaurant/bar was closed for renovation. My room was dirty, there were long black hairs (I'm blonde) in my bed sheets and in the shower, the glass wasn't properly cleaned on the mirrors either. They did offer free yoga classes on the weekends and had a yoga studio available, which was nice. No pool or spa. I did check out the gym, which was very dirty, so I took a pass on that. Ice machine was broken. No on-site laundry facilities either. All in all, I wish I had stayed somewhere else. For the price I paid, it was not worth it."
"I chose the Sofia due to extremely low prices compared to other hotels around the Gaslamp district, but was extremely impressed with the property and staff. Rooms are cozy and perfect for a one-person business trip or a couple that doesn't mind close quarters. The history of the location is evident in the architecture and decor around the building, and I would have loved to attend the property tour. Location is a 15 minute walk from the convention center, and closer to excellent bars and restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would absolutely recommend the Sofia hotel and will be staying here next time I come to San Diego for business or pleasure."
"This is a beautiful hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful. It was easy walking to our places of interest. Our room (and hotel common areas) was clean, neat and QUIET. Our bed was made for us and our towels replaced, room tidied for our second day of stay. I would absolutely stay again."
"It was clean, the bed was very comfy, and the location was great. The building is historic, which I love, and the lobby is pretty. Our room wasn't huge but it wasn't as tiny as I expected and there is some creative storage space that was helpful. The only downside was that our shower drained very slowly, but maintenance would have come to look at it if we'd asked. It's walking distance to a ton of food and bars. I was not surprised that we needed to pay $40 a night for parking, since that is pretty standard for small hotels in cities."
