The Monterey Hotel

"Old hotel with charm. Front desk staff Juan was very helpful explaining parking (go up.the street, it's only $8/day), and when we couldn't figure out the tv, he came right up and helped. There is a bar and theater across the street, and because it is an old hotel, the walls are thin, and partying could be heard well into the night, so bring earplugs if that's an issue for you. I rather enjoyed sleeping to the party people. The gym is small, but adequate and clean; the hot tub is hot, very clean and inviting. I'd suggest skip the in room coffee in the morning and go get it in the lobby. You can grab some fruit and granola bars too."

"No frills, no space, not even a window that looks outside. My window looks into an indoor hallway. This place was probably great at the turn of the century... No not that turn of the century, the one before that one. Now it should be limited to use as a museum."

"10/10 - 5 stars!! Such a beautiful place, my room had a fireplace, and a fan. That alone to me is absolutely luxury. Beautiful old-school hotel. The staff are amazing & bonus ... a lovely hot tub."

"We enjoyed the location. Short walk to anything in the old city and the harbor. The place was quite worn and even dirty in most public spaces but parking was cheap and close in the public garage across the street. The room lacked AC, and though it was cool, our room was west windowed and heated up uncomfortably. The fan provided did little to cool it down, even through the night with the window wide open so rest was a bit uncomfortable ... Granted we like it unusually cool when we sleep."

"If you want to sleep, this is not your place. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything in the adjacent rooms. Also, if someone in another room showers, you can hear the water running through the pipes. The gym is literally 3 machines. No free weights. My Cable TV did not work, and the maintenance person was not in. The saving grace is that the location is great, otherwise I would not recommend this hotel."
