"Louis Lopes cost me an extra $8,000 in premiums over the next 20 years and has now ghosted me. I weighed 231 lbs in 2021 when I went shopping for life insurance. All Louis had to tell me is, "You'll save $400/year in premiums over the next 20 years if you get below 226 lbs before your medical exam." Instead, I only found that out AFTER I had been issued a policy by Principal Life. So I told Louis I didn't want that policy. He convinced me to keep it by saying, "If you weigh under 226 lbs for a year, then we can go back to them and ask to be re-rated." So I reluctantly agreed. For a year and a half I have been weighed at doctor's offices from 209 to 223 lbs and have documented proof. I had a couple of health issues in the past 2 years (who didn't?) that are now resolved. So I emailed Louis twice in October saying I was ready to file paperwork with Principal to be re-rated. Nothing. No response the first time and the second I got an auto response saying he was away but, "When I return to the office, I will quickly respond to all voicemails and e-mails." Again, no response in 2 months. So if you work with Louis Lopes, I suggest you ask him upfront, "What can I do (lose weight, quit smoking, etc) to get into a category with lower premium?" before you go to the medical exam. I'm done begging him to follow through on what he promised to do 2 years ago. I'll be shopping my life insurance needs now with my independent agent that handles our home, auto, and umbrella policies."
