"Fantastic steamed roast beef and smoked cheddar sandwich with huge portions for a great value. Real old school sandwich shop with a long history. Definitely check it out."
"not bad at all for the price, and the late hours are convenient. also there is a cool history to this iconic Tennessee deli full of orange memorabilia! The location and web presence are managed well under the leadership of Aaron the owner who is kind and responsive to most customers. top notch guy who runs the ship of this must-see knoxville food joint. late nights and Vol game days here are unbeatable. a tradition unlike any other for any and every UTk student! GBO and go to Gus’s"
"This is basically a college joint. Food was ok. Got a philly cheese steak. Probably on par with a Jersey Mike's sandwich in quality. My cousin got a chicken sandwich. Looked McDonald's quality, I didn't try it. First weird thing is that we ordered at the cook station and they didn't even give a copy of the ticket to the cashier. So we had to repeat everything back to her. Seems like a college kid could just tell the cashier they just got a coke and get free food. Never seen this concept... Big problem was that the place was DIRTY. Even for a greasy sandwich/burger joint bordering a college campus. Staff was rude also. We noticed that everyone ordering behind us was getting their food before us. So we asked politely if our food order would be delayed. We were informed that the cooked sandwiches would be a long time. Basically what they do is prepare all of the deli/steamed sandwiches before even worrying about the cooked food (besides fries). They acted like we should have known this and they did offer to switch our order to something we didn't want so it would be faster. This place is basically on the border of campus so they are on the route from the football stadium and basketball arena back to parking/dorms and the route from the dorms to the bar/liquor stores so I'd imagine this is how they stay in business. Basically drunk people. Me and my cousin did talk audibly about how terrible the experience was right after we got our food, so that's probably a complaint they would have against us... Long story short, take the quick walk and go to Firehouse up the road. Edit: Thank you for your reply. I don't think I can reply to your reply or at least I haven't figured out how to. I guess I'm sort of from out of town. I have been to various campus delis. If anything (if you want to disregard everything else about my review) I would recommend a deep clean. I understand you have been in business for 40 and obviously you're not going to be able to clean every table on turnover during a gameday when you're that busy, but there were some areas that had well aged dirt/grease. Maybe the health inspectors don't care, I don't know. It sounds like your business is working for you and your loyal customers are rewarding your efforts. If I had a business that boasted worldwide clientele I guess I would want to encourage new "out of towners" to enjoy my establishment rather than giving the "out of towner" label a negative connotation. I wasn't an opposing football fan at the game Saturday, if that's what you're implying... Good luck going forward and I'll upgrade you to 2 stars since you seem to value feedback."
"We will gladly drive across Henley Street bridge and deal with Cumberland to get a great steamed sandwich. Our last order was very expensive for sub sandwiches and it wasn't even hot, and certainly not steamed. I couldn't believe it! That's the whole point that the sandwich is steamed and it was not."
"I’ve been eating here for many years and highly recommend it. Fresh made deli sandwiches, burgers and more. The burgers come with a HUGE mound of seasoned shoestring fries. Good sized burgers too. Highly recommend the deep fried pickle spears. Facility and bathrooms are always clean. Staff is very friendly and helpful."
