Reviews of Southwest Research Institute
"I've been working at SwRI as an electrical engineer on spacecraft avionics for five years now. Working at SwRI has given me unparalleled access to experts in my field along with interesting and challenging projects. I have had opportunities to work on state of the art space instruments and space engineering using cutting-edge devices. I highly recommend working here if you are looking for technical growth."
"My time as a contractor there never led to full-time employment, despite my qualifications and dedication to the company. Temp workers can expect limited privileges, worked to the bone while watching staff and personnel enjoy extensive lunch breaks and extravagant company events that excludes contractors and temps, and no career development opportunities. I would also advise the public to not bother applying to work for this company, as the HR department automatically earmarks SWRI employees for the job positions. In other words, the jobs they post on mainstream job boards is just to satisfy their hiring quotas. Company politics dictates that internal hiring is their standard operating procedure. All that glitters is not gold. You would have better luck applying for jobs with their competitors. There is just too much stagnation at SWRI, that it would stunt an individual's potential and desire for growth."
"Quit earlier in the year after 15 years. As an institution, the company has chosen to protect senior management members that decided they were going to systematically violate company health and safety policy. They (Department head in this case) continued violating policy after complaints throughout 2020, and directed other employees to violate company health and safety policy, and promoted several in the division who routinely violated health and safety policy at their encouragement. It's an institutionalized issue at this point. If you're anti-goverment and want to undermine national security when you disagree with current federal positions or feel like you have the right to violate company health and safety policy whenever you want, despite having agreed to follow it under terms of your employment, then this is the place for you. If you're someone with integrity or any respect for the community, then maybe not."
"Great institute that kept our Town on the map of having one of the best institutes in the world when you hear about the history of this institute you feel how important is giving for the coming generations coz in 1947 a generous man gave all human kind a gift without waiting for anything in return , thank you Mr. Thomas Slick JR for this great donation. All I can say at the end to the managers in this great institute is you guys have a great heritage keep up the great work."
"Was there for work back in April of 2018. Very good and clean place. It's like a campus that has different buildings that support various science and engineering research work. I went there for work and cannot speak about that. But overall, a very well laid out campus with good directions and there are good to local eats around. The area around SwRI is kinda sketchy though..."
