Reviews
"St Pius is an outstanding school, I don't understand how anyone who hasn't attended the school or had a child attending could leave a bad review. Or complain about the exceptance process which is the same at every private school. My son graduated from St Pius in the spring and my daughter is now a freshman there. Both of my kids have excelled, not only in their academics but over all their entire Highschool experience has or had drastically changed. The teachers at St Pius care about their students, and engage them in learning. Sure parts of the school are the original building from the 1950's but why would that matter. I see it as humbling, they have all the best technology available to them, brand new building on campus, but they still get to see the history and humble beginning of their school. What's more important is the sense of community and family at the school, the lack of drama and the focus on your child's future and their Highschool experience. I would give St Pius 10 stars if I could."
"St. Pius is a good school, but if you are from the inner loop area, people do tend to think that it does not have as good as a reputation as other private high schools. As far as the academics go, the only real rigor you'll get is from AP and honors classes as everything that is not upper level is truthfully standard difficulty if not easier than any typical public high school class. St. Pius definitely is a place that'll prepare you for college if you decide to make the most out of it by really challenge yourself academically and by getting involved with the school."
"St. Pius X High school has changed my live in a positive way. I was treated unfairly at other schools. SPX is the first private school I have never been to but also the first school who treated me equally. I thank the staff, the teachers, and students (many of whom have become my friends)."
"I transferred into St. Pius X at the beginning of sophomore year. Upon acceptance, the process of getting credits approved was a bit ridiculous. I had to take placement exams; I had to turn in a transcript as well as letters from my teachers from the school I went to. This would not have been much of a shock if I had transferred from another private school, but I came in from CY Fair, which is a respected high school. After taking a full load of AP and upper level courses my freshman year it was appalling that there were only a handful of upper level courses for a student to take if you are not a senior. I spent about two weeks in the lower level courses (as suggested by my counselor) and I was taken-aback. Over half of the students were allowed to take tests in the learning center, and all of whom I spoke to about their experience explained the reason they were taking tests in there was to cheat on their exams. However, the purpose of the learning center was to help those with learning disabilities. Moving past the test taking habits, the teachers for the on level classes were disinterested in the education of the students. I decided to speak to my counselor so that I could move into the honors classes after the first few weeks and that decision completely changed St Pius for me. The teachers were all of a different caliber. I enjoyed this part of the education; however, we were still limited to a few honors and AP courses a year. This pattern reigned true throughout the entirety of the time I spent at St Pius. I loved and learned an incredibly amount from my honors and AP courses but felt as if I regressed in my education in the regular classes. I had teachers in my on level classes that claimed we were all "do nothings" and that we would be lucky if we were to amount to anything. To top all of it off almost all of the teachers that I learned the most from were fired, managed out of the school, or quit when my class graduated. Lastly, the claim by the school to have a multitude of extracurricular activities such as clubs and sports teams in addition to a wide variety of electives was a lie. There was absolutely no choice in classes you could take year to year, you could pick from one of six classes that were not core curriculum your senior year (which is when the school claims you have the most choice in your classes). You could play sports, I played baseball, but if you did they expected you to take only on level courses, I was the only student on the team who was in even one AP or Honors course. However, if you played a popular sport such as football or baseball you could get out of taking tests, turning in homework assignments, taking quizzes. I have heard many accounts that the members of the football team were handed copies of the test to study before taking them. I had many friends struggling through school sitting in the next desk over from a student who were given a. This is the experience I had at St Pius X. Overall it is hard to say I did not prosper here, I got into Texas A&M, I felt as prepared as possible for college, and I am thankful for the friends that I made. However, I would strongly recommend sending your children to a different private school in the Houston area. St Thomas, Strake Jesuit, St Agnes, Incarnate Word Academy, St Johns, or the public school closest to your house. ."
"St Pius X is one of the best high school's Houston has to offer it provides a very educated system and if your a fan of sports St Pius is your destination for football, baseball, basketball, and even golf. It also includes a variety of clubs to join that would fit any attributes you desire. St Pius X is a true tradition that will live on forever. GO PANTHERS!"
