"West Montessori School of Copperfield is a TRUE Montessori! We toured many day cares that claimed to be Montessori but were disappointed until we observed here. My son, who is 4 years older than my daughter, attended West Montessori a few years ago and thrived. When my daughter was old enough to attend, we searched, toured and interviewed other schools, directors and teachers but nothing compared to West Montessori. We continue to be very pleased we chose for our daughter to attend WM. She looks forward to school and talks about her friends and teachers in very positive ways. The staff is the same now as it was when my son attended. This consistency shows what a wonderful place this is to work and learn. A happy staff makes for happy children (and parents)! The teachers are well-trained, kind, and mature women who are making a career out of teaching so there isn’t the high turnover we experienced at the other day cares/schools my children attended. The school is always clean and decorated in different ways so it feels more like home than an institution. The walls are dry erase so they will be painted or drawn on in really interesting and creative ways. Both of my children have very sensitive skin and had many fewer diaper rashes (and much less severe) when we switched them to West Montessori. The staff was willing to work with us on different treatments and prescriptions they needed for this and with NO complaint! They see kids as individuals and want to make sure each one is cared for in the way they need to be. This care takes more time and was seen as inconvenient (or was forgotten about) by their previous schools. Both of my children went to expensive private preschools before West Montessori but they did not receive this kind of love and care there. At West Montessori potty training was a very pleasant experience with no punishment or humiliation involved. WM develops the whole child while not sacrificing academics. They learn to clean up after themselves, care for others, express their needs and desires, how to apologize and accept an apology, how to be more empathetic, etc. While at my daughter’s previous school, she started talking back to us more, rolling her eyes, raising her voice and other behaviors we do not model at home. There were a couple of days I was able to observe at her old school when the “teachers” did not know I was watching/listening…they were raising their choices, yelling across the room rather than getting up to redirect, rolling their eyes, using sarcasm, etc. At WM the teachers know how to behave as respectful adults and know that the children will imitate what they see. Children are gently redirected and taught appropriate behavior (directly, through role playing and modeled by the teacher day in and day out). One skill I cannot be happier with is the fine motor skills my son developed and my daughter is developing at WM. At my daughter’s previous private preschool, I felt she was already being introduced to a lifetime of worksheets. There are so many ways to strengthen fine motor skills (and develop a proper pencil grip) without the drill and kill of “tracing pages” that have no purpose in a child’s mind. She really enjoys pouring, sorting, using tweezers and clothespins, pricking patterns out of construction paper- all the while not knowing she is improving her future handwriting! West Montessori really is like a little community. They have festivals, feasts and programs for the parents to come to with their children. They have provided some really great bonding experiences between me and my children. This has allowed me to meet my children’s friends and their parents as well as see how the staff interacts with the kids and each other. (I do not mean to speak poorly of other schools but sometimes a comparison helps to see why one school truly is better than another. We are grateful for West Montessori and all they have done for our children.)"

"My family and I moved from NYC in 2013; the most intellectually stimulating, nurturing and caring environment of my son's needs was West Montessori of Copperfield and he has been attending since then. In addition to the school environment and great staff, we have found and participated in a variety of school activities as a family that make the Montessori experience more whole. At West Montessori, there are also a variety of extracurricular activities like cooking class with Chef AK which he cannot get enough of. He is fascinated about cooking with his friends, learning and having a recipe to follow, which Chef AK provides them with to take home and practice. We are grateful to have found the right school to help us in shaping a caring, loving, respectful and happy boy."
