Fossil Hill Apartments

"Update: about a week after posting this review I got a call from the staffing agency who had staffed the maintenance workers and they got me paid for my lost possessions, so I am updating my review from 1 star to 3. They stole about $800 of my stuff when I moved out. I lived there for 3 years and it was terrible. After paying $2300 to break my lease they said that they got their dates mixed up and the maintenance guys assumed it was an abandoned apartment. As soon as I started asking for compensation for my things they shifted the blame saying that the maintenance guys were through a temp agency. It's been 2 months and still nothing. I know my things weren't thrown away because I had a ring camera that was boxed up ready for the move that I was notified was trying to be set up on a new ring account. As for the rest of my stay, there was a new owner every year. The first 6 months I lived there I couldn't get mail because homeless people kept breaking into the mail boxes. During the big freeze that happened in February a few years ago a pipe burst and they fixed the pipe in about 2 weeks but left a hole in my ceiling for 10 months. For the whole month of July one year my AC was broken. Every couple of months there was an outbreak of bugs, either ants, flies, spiders, or roaches. The laundry room always had at least 1 of the 3 sets of washers and dryers broken down. Everyone's water was "added up and averaged" so when I was living alone my water bill was still around $60-$70 per month. Parking was terrible and the road noise from North Beach was worse. I do not recommend living here."

"Skip these apartments, keep looking. They don't fully repair maintenance requests. There is always something falling apart, leaking, not working. The management team doesn't care for the property, they don't do regular pest control and they take zero accountability. I just read a review where they threw away someone's belongings and instead of replying saying they would make it right they simply admitted to breaking the terms of the lease and called it a "miscommunication" then said they would try to do better in the future, that's disgusting. If that doesn't tell you what kind of place this is I don't know what will. There are plenty of other apartments on or near N Beach that are a million times better. If they mess up and screw you over they won't make it right or compensate you. Don't say you weren't warned!!"

"The only reason I chose one star is because 0 stars isn’t an option. Niaomi is one of the worst apartment employee’s I’ve ever had to deal with. Very disrespectful and entitled to talking to people however she wants. She would give me wrong information and say things about the rules that came to be not true. My parking space didn’t even exist and they argued that it was on their paper map. I literally had to draw my number for my parking space with sharpie because they wouldn’t do it for weeks even though you pay for it in the lease. When I leased the apartment the manager told me a certain price and I paid. Then a few days before move in she told me she had ‘forgot’ to mention a $200 fee for a deposit that was required. How do you forget something like that??! Shoutout to Drew though you could tell she was actually educated in her field and always found a way to fix the problem after niaomi would tell me there’s no way around the problem."

"Run don’t walk run away from these apartments. They smell like animals all the time, overpaying for water even when you asked to see your usage. They won’t give it to you nor will the The company that owns them give you your usage bill. They will email you letters of payments that you owe them at night time but the next day when you call to discuss payment is a totally different number than what they told you previously. The office lady whhen you ask her questions, she knows nothing and can’t do anything about anything. I wish I would’ve did six months instead of a year lease"

"If you want to live in peace, DO NOT sign a contract here. We have been almost three years in this complex and let me tell you that I have seen several faces go through management. Don't get carried away with the model apartment because it's the only nice thing they have. The neighbors are very nice, we never had any problems with any of them. We did have a lot of security and maintenance problems. Starting with the air conditioning, we had to have a storage box for the water because otherwise the apartment would flood. The problem apparently goes back to before we moved in and has never been fixed. We made many requests for maintenance and nothing. Also last year in August we spent three weeks without air conditioning in the extreme heat. Yes they helped us but if I didn't tell them that I was going to communicate with the people above them they did nothing. Secondly, the bathroom where the air conditioner is, we could not even use it because the bathtub tiles fell off and the wood was visible, the bathtub peeled off all the paint that was put on it and they brought several people to check to fix it and they never did anything. Third, your parking if it is near the maintenance people you will not have peace because they park there if you are not there and if you arrive it is a mission to find them and if not you have to wait until it is check out time for them to leave. Fourth, we were able to use the pool before we left because since we moved there the pool has always been a problem. All in all we were paying for a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment but using only one bathroom. In addition we were charged for cleaning the carpet, which had no stains at all, and additional repairs that made no sense."
