"Convenient location. Pleasant staff. But this whole hotel is just worn. Lobby poorly lit. Rooms clean but plumbing needs repairs, doors & trim need sanding & painting, lighting needs improvements. Carpets in hallways need repairs. Every room entry door is scratched up (intall brass kick-plates!). A nice feature was a white noise machine to block downtown traffic noise. Breakfast great. Restaurant classy, but again goofy lighting. Platinum lounge was sad, no decent snacks, but apples, water & a few drink selections available. Interesting history exhibit in basement. I would move the sculpture to the main lobby for more people to enjoy it. Excellent tributes to Blues- Jazz Man Robert Johnson. This 1909 hotel could be so outstanding if repaored and renovated! But still enjoyed it! Thanks Gunter."
"**Read before you consider paying extra for the concierge lounge** As one of those annoying and entitled lifetime titanium elite guests, concierge lounge access is free upgrade, but for those of you that might consider paying extra don't. Unfortunately Marriott, just like Delta, is guilty of oversubscribing their elite lounges, but since the pandemic has failed to provide consistent service across their properties and it's hit or miss. With the Gunter, it's a miss. The lounge is adequately sized and even has a pool table - a first!, but the snack and drink selection just stink - you have your choice of bottled water, diet or regular pepsi, a lemon lime soda or Dr. Pepper, but the only snacks were a few hundred natures valley granola bars. I suppose I could be looking at it the wrong way...If I take a sip of dr pepper, then take a bite, it will taste different than if I take a sip of water and take a bite, so now that I think about it it's just me being picky."
"This hotel is amazing the rooms are in a nice location where you can look out and see the beautiful sites of downtown San Antonio and the rooms are clean and the beds are made with pillow softness so comfy! But the best of all is their friendly staff from the valet to the front desk , restaurant personnel and the housekeeping staff are above and beyond amazing and require recognition for their beautiful done up rooms to their hospitality for any necessary needs they are truly good people Thank you! This hotel is exceptional and its because of their staff! Fast and friendly service and clean beautiful rooms !"
"Everything about the stay was great. Valet was very quick and friendly and we hardly had to wait for the car. We locked our keys in the room and the front desk gave us a quick replacement. The housekeeper Pura was very sweet and insightful. She saw us looking at the pictures of the hotel and gave us a lot of historical information and a run down of the history of the hotel. The location was great as you’re in a short walking distance of everything and if you don’t want to walk it’s all a quick drive. Would definitely consider staying here again!"
"First, the location was great. It was within walking distance to most places that we wanted to visit. Secondly, the staff was courteous, friendly and helpful. Very pretty lobby. Because this was an old hotel, I expected some “funkiness”. It is my understanding that Marriott bought this hotel approximately a year ago. I saw a lot of construction/renovation while there so I’m excited to come back in a year and see the changes. My room was a good size. The bathroom was old but clean and not bad. My friends said the same thing about their rooms. I was disappointed that the concierge lounge wasn’t serving breakfast but the front desk clerk informed me that it is in their future plans to get that set up. I would absolutely recommend this place and I am happy it is getting the facelift this grand hotel deserves."
