"I’ve been pleased in the past with Jarboe’s, but not after today’s experience. My on-demand water heater wasn’t working properly. After being on site just a few minutes, the technician said there’s an internal leak and it would cost $600 to open the unit and $2500-$3000 to repair. He thought it would be best to replace the unit ($5500). I asked if the unit could be under warranty (it’s 9 years old) and he said not likely. He didn’t try to find out. I called another plumber who came out this afternoon and he found it was under warranty. The unit is now being replaced tomorrow with a new unit ($0 cost) and I only have to pay for the labor. Bye Jarboe’s!"

"I called Jarboe's because the pilot light in my 12 year old water heater would not stay on. I mentioned that I would like it repaired, and was told that the plumber has a large amount of parts in his van and should be able to fix it. The experience of calling in and getting a text to update me and even a Bio on the person coming out was a welcome surprise that I am generally not used to for such services. The person I spoke with was very pleasant as well. Your plumber called ahead of time and arrived just as expected and on time.Very nice, clean and friendly. So far so good. I showed him to the basement to and the water heater. He examined it for about 3-5 minutes and then mentioned that since it is older than 7 years he could not repair it. I had already performed troubleshooting myself and narrowed the problem to the Thermopile. It was not putting out enough voltage. I asked if he could repair it since it was an easy fix, but he declined. I asked about what the cost to replaced my 50 gallon unit would be and he said approximately $2200. Very surprising since new ones can be purchased for $650. I am a believer in supporting local folks such as Jarboe's. $2200 seems excessive. Yes I know there is labor to uninstall/remove/haul away the old unit and install the replacement, and file for a permit with the city, however with that said, the cost still seems excessive. At that point I ended the service call, paid my $98 (which had I known up front that Jarboe's do not repair units older than 7 years I would NOT have had a service call in the first place. In the end, I visited a few plumbing supply houses in the area and found the part I needed for $35, brought it home and swapped out the defective thermopile/pilot/igniter myself (not difficult) and within 3 hours It fired right up and is working just as expected. I would have been happy to pay a fair price to have Jarboe's perform this repair, however that was not an option. Personally I believe that an up front notice that water heaters older than 7 years would be replaced, not repaired would have been to everyone benefit. The plumber could go on to a more lucrative job and I would look further for someone to come onsite and perform the repair. I feel as though I was taken advantage of and should have asked more questions up front to prevent this onsite call. I have heard from friends that have been satisfied with the results and cost of Jarboe's. Wish I could say the same, but unfortunately I cannot. I give 2 stars because I thought the plumber who arrived was very professional, even though he was unable to do what I requested."
