Pain Management Specialists at Medical Center Clinic

"POSTED Jan 2020-In Aug 2019 Dr. Mastaw abandoned his office W/O notice to patients (including me) or even his staff. In the past 10 years, three doctors have abandoned their MMC pain management duties. The first two times were smoothly done. Not now, Mastaw's partner Dr. Burkhalter refused to continue caring for any Mastaw patients, "too busy". I am now at Clearway and very impressed with Dr. Fairleigh, who proposed something no other Dr. has mentioned since 1997; radio frequency ablation (minor burning of nerves) for folks with chronic pain. There is no such thing as a "good" open spinal surgery, I have had 12 lumbar surgeries. Two for herniated disks and ten others for repair of damage by doctor # two and later drs. Clearway may not be perfect, but their organization is large, so I don't expect to be abandoned again, like Dr. Mastaw/Burkhalter have done. DON'T get talked into spinal fusion anywhere. In 1993 I was bedridden with totally disabling pain FROM the fusion. One year later it was removed. A joke."

"Money scam! Dr Mastaw has no clue what’s going on and he lies on his charts to make himself look compliant while feeding pain meds. 95% of the time you will a medical assistant that will actually suggest medical procedures without even reading the notes in the records."

"The staff all work diligently with the patients, Dr's, PA's to make sure your needs are met in a timely fashion and manner. Cindy the Office Manager has taken the time to call me at home and meet with me personally the one and only time I became frustrated because I didn't understand some of the process. It was resolved on the spot. Dr Mastaw has help me tremendously with the pain in my Sacro illiac (sp) joints. I highly recommend this office if you are in pain."

"I've moved from Oklahoma but am a resident of Daphne AL. I have been in pain management for over 2 years AND being treated for Giant Cell Lipoma (although I believe more to it) and have had 3 surgeries....they get larger, more painful and grow quicker every time they are removed. The last surgery, I had no choice but to let them remove muscle in my lower back as well as leg , buttock, etc. The tumor instantly came back and now on my spine. Huge and painful....I'm still having trouble walking after removal of muscles a year ago. I've built the muscle back and pain gets worse. I moved here and had to transfer all of my records to this place because they are the only place that takes my insurance. After calling them once a week and a month later (exactly when I needed to go in pain management for treatment), the lady told me to find someone "in state" because the doctor can't treat me. Although, it's less than 30 minute from my house and they KNEW I NEEDED to transfer because I can't drive 1000 miles to my previous team of doctors. So, instead of giving me the courtesy beforehand (3 weeks) to tell me try alabama in order for me to stay on pain management schedule,.... they waited until I had no clue there was a chance to be denied legitimate care! This is negligence and careless....he has jeopardized my health and quality of life...now leaving me to worry about how i am going to work without dropping...hopping flights. I intend to write whomever necessary in this hospital, board, etc. DONT rely on these people to care about your need to transfer medical care."
