The Plex Brooklyn

"This is a "newer building" constructed about 10-12 years ago, but the amenities they mention don't all work. The screens on the gym equipment are all broken, the console in the lobby is broken, the screen in the theatre flashes blue which makes it pointless to reserve, and the sauna has a gap in the door etc. They will charge you monthly to send you your HVAC bill (the bill - which at times is astronomical). They will try to charge you as much as possible when you are renewing your lease and they just repeat robotic answers via email if you try to inquire about it. In my instance I signed a lease at a certain amount only for the lease to be returned with a high amount listed! The only way I got it back to the original amount was to make a ruckus. We did have mice several times this year and because the apartments are small it is more noticeable and then they sent the exterminator multiple times to clean up that mess... Additionally, if you have a balcony in the back it is kinda useless because you hear the AC fans spinning all day long. Lastly, some apartments share bedroom walls with other units / the staircase / are near the elevator so it won't be as quiet as it should be based on the amount we pay. Just some things to consider! If you have extra cash to burn and don't want to live in a pre war building, this is your spot."

"I’ve lived here for 2 years. I’ve lived in multiple luxury buildings. The doormen and women at The Plex are best in class. The apartments are huge with great outdoor space. The elevators are functional and the price is surprisingly low for an elevator building with Central air."

"The building is decent with the only problem being elevators. One of the two does not work most of the times. The staff is also quite friendly. The bad rating is because of the fraudulent management. I lived there for a year and a half and had to break my lease since I left New York. They deducted 25% of the security and sent me a check. Upon inquiring initially I was told it’s because of damaged floor with no proof, later they said it’s not the floor but the apartment needed painting, again absolutely no proof. There was an inspection by the management when I left the building and the inspector was absolutely satisfied with the condition of the apartment. I am fighting with the management from out of state. It’s not easy, but I have decided to take them to court if I have to. This management company is terrible and running a malpractice in the name of a rental company. Stay away."

"We have lived at the Plex for the past 7 years and have had a great experience! Management has been easy to work with and you can’t find a better apartment with this location and amenities. Joe was great to work with and made our move to a bigger apartment in the building a breeze!"

"Worst apartment building in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The elevators are down more often than they work... Watching old women and mothers walk kids and strollers up flights is enough. Management avoids the property. Lies to people when giving tours. Imagine paying luxury prices to walk up 6 flights of stairs. Do not rent here or ever do business with Halcyon. You will regret it."
