"This school has worked out ok for my son however I get several complains a week how some teachers get frustrated when he asked questions. I'm unhappy to hear this since that's what teachers are there for "to guide and help our children""
"MELS has definitely changed my life since I started this school. i'm currently a 7th grader and I've already had so many experiences that I will never forget such as Crew Orientation which is the annual 6th grade camping trip. The principals are very involved with the school and most of the time you can find them walking the halls and chatting with students. They interact with us and they listen to our ideas and they help us to make them happen. They also listen to our complaints and deal with our petty drama situations very well. The teachers are also great. In class they might be tough on you but that's only because they want you to push yourself and be the best you could be because they believe in you. Also the teachers are very trustworthy if you are having a problem you know that you could always go to one of them for advice and they would keep it on the low. While at MELS they give you a lot of opportunities to bond with the people in your grade and the people out of your grade. I have made many good friends and I have MELS to thank for that. So I would say that MELS is an almost perfect school except for minor flaws that all schools have like NYC school lunch."
"This school has changed my life since the first day of school. Im a seventh grader hear at mels. The most thing i like about this school is that the principal are always there when you need them. There very nice, they always got your back! Both principal are the best! The teachers are really nice here AT mels. But let me tell you something what really bugs the teachers is when you dont do your homework! Omg you dont want to be IN detention, i have had detention most of the time because i always forgot to do my hw. Where would you rather be IN detention or be with your friends during lunch? Well If you want to be with your friends during lunch then do your hw! This school teaches you lots of things you dont even know. Everything IN this school is beautiful the bathrooms are IN GOOD shape, the hallways are clean, classrooms are neat. You will meet new friends GOOD FRIENDS, trust me. This school is not a bad school ITS a GOOD school you learn ALOT of things. ALSO THAT even IF you struggle IN something dont give UP! You can do it trust me! THE teachers WOULD NEVER let you give up. They WOULD keep pushing you to MAKE you not give up. Always HAVE faith IN yourself. IF something is bugging you, you SHOULD tell someone not JUST keep it to yourself tell THE principal trust THEM like i trust THEM!"
"I'm a current sixth grader at this school. The campus is so big that this is such a big school, it is both a middle school, and, a high school. This school is so big you can't even tell where's the middle school, and, where's the high school when you come to this school for the first time. The teachers/ staff members are so nice, and, so helpful I rate this school a 5 star school. Another thing I love this school is the after-school they offer the students who want to participate in an after-school. I also love how the locker rooms in gym looks like, and, the lockers in the hallway. But, the thing about this school is we get titles categorized by grade. For example, 6th, and, 9th graders are known as freshman. 7th, and, 10 graders are known as elite. 8th, and, 11th graders are sophomores. Same for the 12 graders, 12th graders are known as seniors/ sophomores. Another thing I love about this school is how the teachers give jumprope comments through the computer, and, they go to the students' crew teacher. The jumprope comments can be either positive, or, negative. The negative is for if a student does something wrong twice, and, the positive is for if a student does the right thing twice. In addition to this, I also love how the teachers give efficiency points to each/ a class that does the right thing/ listens/ does all of their work, and, 100% of students must do all of their work in class in order to earn their cohort/ class an efficiency point. But most importantly, I love how each student from each cohort/ class gets a different schedule from each other, and, that other people/ students a categorized by a different cohort/ class so it can be an opportunity for them to make new, and, more friends they're meeting for the first time. In addition to this, I love how each cohort/ class has a different schedule everyday, and, the schedule is super organized. I also love the fact that this school gives student handbooks to freshman students in 6th grade/ middle school, and, to freshman students in 9th grade/ high school in the beginning of the school year."
"This is a fantastic school that encourages student growth and academic challenge. Their core values drive every decision, and their respect for students is wonderful. It's a unique school (Expeditionary Learning, don't use textbooks, Field Work instead of field trips), and maybe is not for every student, but it's been a wonderful experience for my son."
